VNA,

Dave45 needs our love and support! He just told us he has Emphysema. Like most stud men thinks it may just go away and afraid to share and ask for help! Some of you know the type, still thinks he is 19!!! He told us OK to post this since he could not. Although, not sure he will at first like our direct approach?

We tough love NYC ladies (OK, sometime Bitches) told him: He MUST 1. QUIT smoking and less or NO drinking. 2. Start a "just do it walking program" & get a pedometer to count steps. 3. Share his results and hardships in this Post for VNA Support and help! OR DIE = Up to him!!! His poor dad did.

Google search of "emphysema natural cures" had 240,000 + links!

Cigarette Smoking: The risk of developing emphysema as a result of smoking is directly correlated to the amount of cigarettes a person smokes per day, as well as the number of years he or she has been a smoker.

There are natural cures for Emphysema that do not involve the use of pharmaceutical drugs. They involve restoring the biochemical balance of the body, and making dietary and lifestyle changes designed to improve one's general health.

Dave "Just DO IT!" So many years out their of hot sex 4 YOU!

LJ&S Trio

PS Any VNA ladies "donate" romance to Dave as rewards for progress? We kind of think that may motivate Dave to live? :lmao:

Trio. is right. That's what the Dr. said. This is hard for me, I'm just a farm boy and to me it's kinda like airing my dirty laundry. I don't want anybody to feel sorry for me! No one twisted my arm to smoke, Yes sence I was 16. I know I have a lot of things to deal with and Trio is right about quiting smoking.
I've lived my life as I have wanted, controlled what I could of it and hated what I couldn't. Hell we laid 2 lil girls to rest 20 years ago. I hid from that for all this time by drinking and when that didn't work anymore I got sober and hid from it by working. Well all that fell in on me about 2 years ago. I fell off the wagon that summer and have hated myself for it.
Now I have another battle in this life. NO I'm not ready to die but I have decided to live the rest of my life as I want to. Those who don't like it can (you know).
There's a lot of things I've been thinking about. Like what am I going to do when I cant work anymore, Do I hire a driver or sell the trk.
These are things that I have to do for myself, no one can help, got to do this one all by myself, for myself.

You told me this a while back, Dave, and you know my responses. Getting it out in the open is, I think, a good thing. You know we are here for you.

Dave45: As you see I don't post much. But, you are important and can get much better as Sue and Laura have made suggestions out above. A girl friend of mine was in like stage 2 of emphysema. Quit smoking and drinking. Attended group help and just started walking 30 minutes everyday and that was 5+ years ago. She is out and about and hotter now than before. Easier said than done. Most all know that.

You 2 can do it man! Know it takes like 40 days to make habit and life style changes. Those old farts in the Bible times knew lots more than most of us today. Take your time to work things out as best you are able, but no more that 40 days. Ask for help. Both VNA and as Sue and Laura tell all local quit smoking and emphysema groups. Man up and call 211 for help too. We all need you stud. ~ Jebby

Dave: Have you watched any of the Olympics? The interviews with the winners are the best and many never watch them. I have been very lucky to meet in person many of these type of successful people in many walks of life. Now stop your lust for Lindsey Vonn, she is married, but read her story of "pushing through all pain and odds against you" to win gold.

Never think "my dad died of emphysema and so must I!" Believe in your heart and mind that if you make some changes now, you will be working the big rig and going to VNA events for many, many more years! ~ Jeb

Hey, Dave,

I completely respect your desires to live your life on your terms...I absolutely do. I relate to much of what you wrote, on 2 levels. One, I just had my 22 year birthday at AA, but believe me it took a hell of a lot more than 1 try to get that far, so I get the "falling of the wagon" scenario. Second, I just lost my mother last March. She was diagnosed with COPD a good decade ago, but didn't stop smoking until she could barely breathe. My only reason for telling you this is to remind you that having time is one thing....QUALITY of life during that time, that's the important thing. Make it good, my friend, because if you can't breathe, nothing else matters. Take care of yourself, and I'll see you in April, brother.

Walt, Jebby, Boltman, I thank you!
I want to say more but I have to have some time to figuer out how to say it with out sounding like a idiot, or a dumb farm boy. I know this country was built on the backs of farm boy's, and I'm proud to be one. let me take a day or two to get this all down into words that make sence.

Am I understanding this correctly? You are saying that you are not going to quit smoking? Not even try? I'm in shock.

Dave, first, go find the lowest tar and nicotine cigarettes you can find, and start smoking them. Visit this website: http://www.erowid.org/plants/tobacco/tobacco_nic.shtml (also google "tar and nicotine levels in cigarettes" and start reading.)

Take Carlton and Winston, for example:

Carlton has 1mg tar and 0.1 mg nicotine. Winston Light has 10 mg tar and 0.7 mg nicotine. This means very simply, you have to smoke 10 Carltons to get the damage of one Winston.

Now, you will be taking in much less toxic levels, but your body craves more. So, smoke two if you have to to satisfy that urge. You are still 8 ahead. After a few days (week or less,) you will notice that you have adapted to the lower level, and your craving will return to the amount that you smoke now.

Do this for 3 months, minimum. I went 6 months. What happens is that, since you are taking in a much lower level of tars and nicotine, your body will start to cleanse itself, while you are still satisfying that "urge.". After 3 months, you will be well on the way to clean. Then go buy yourself a quit smoking product, such as Nicoderm or Nicorette (the gum.) Set yourself a specific date to do this. "I will switch to the gum on July 1st!"

Dave, I did this in 1985. After a 20 year habit, once I started the gum, it took about half of one box. I woke up one morning and simply didn't want a cigarette. I didn't even take them to work, just the gum. But, that day was the last day I chewed the gum. I simply didn't want either any more. And I have never looked back. 25 years now.

Some say it is bad to keep smoking. That is true, but 1) they do not realise how freaking hard it is to quit a habit such as this, and 2) even so, for that three months, you have cut your intake by 90%. 90%!!!! Then, after 3 months, you lose the last 10.

Do this, Dave. Don't think about it. Just say, "I will do that!" Go buy yourself a carton of Carlton and get started today.

(If you want to try the quit smoking routine right off the bat, do so, but I have seen some who try that and it just is too hard. Some, instead of trying something else, get discouraged and just keep up their old habit.)

So, Dave, start today. As they say, Today is the first day of the rest of your life. And, yes, start eating salads, one or two a day. Make your own at home, as you will put more into them than a restaurant will serve you. A restaurant salad is 90% lettuce. At home, add broccoli, tomatoes, bell pepper, etc. And use Romaine or Dark green lettuce, not iceberg. For taste, get yourself a light dressing (read the labels.)

You can do this, Dave. And you will be here to see me take the plunge at age 90. I'll even let you drive me to the cemetery in your truck.
I can resist everything except temptation.

Have you ever thought of Hypnotism? They say it has worked for a lot of people. A very high success rate 65-70%. I mean actually going to see a hypnotist for one on one, or small group lessons. Don't cheap it out, and buy some do it at home CD/DVD's, although those might be useful for listening to in the truck afterwards. Don't say you can't afford it. Think of how much you spend on cigarettes, and how much your future medical expenses and lack of quality of life will cost you.

Dave,

Vicky is correct. We know Hypnotism has worked for some of our friends! Google "stop smoking" and 23,600,000!!! links.

Add up the costs as Vicky mentioned above and what makes most sense? There is lots of help out there for you. Start today, PLEASE!

We hope by sharing your success and difficulties that you may encourage others in VNA like Sasha and HeyNow to quit with you.

Laura & Sue

PS If Walt can quit, there is hope for all. :clap :walt:

Dave,

How is it going today? Like your log book we all care and want to hear from you. Struggles and successes!

1. Hope you have been able to the free 800 number to get stared. We know where you live it is a bit more difficult to find what many of us have right near us. Now with the Internet that is no excuse!

2. Start eating better as Walt outlined above. Check web links above on suggestions for natural cures. They may help and likely will not hurt.

3. Start a walking program even if 10 - 15 minutes everyday and work up to more. Get a Pedometer to help keep track of steps. Deluxe pedometer at Wal-Mart is $25 and there are ones for less. State Farm even gave us 3 for free last fall.

Laura and Sue

PS We spent our time in NYC and can be a bit bitchy pushy, but this is all out of love and care for special YOU!

I made a run to Cheyenne today, it was so cold this morning it was hard to breath. The first thing I did was throw my smokes in the dog house. I told my buddy tony that we had to stop at the trk stop in Rock Springs, after all that's good place to check the binders and straps. Well while we was there I went in and got 2 packages of hard candy. We stoped 120 mile away for fuel and dinner, I had one there. I had one when we dropped out trailers in Cheyenne and one when we stopped in Sinclair to clean our windows. I had one when we got home and LEFT them in the truck. I do have a pocket ful of hard candy thou.
