After having "Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay" stuck in my head for a while, I remembered a similar-sounding tune done by the same group, Danny And The Juniors:

I also remembered a funny Futurama episode that I think paid a little homage to Christine. In the episode, the company robot, Bender, inherits a spooky castle in Thermostadt. During a visit there, Bender gets infected with a computer virus and becomes a were-car. He turns into an old-fashioned car with wheels at midnight and tries to kill humans. The rest of the episode involves searching for the original were-car, which will beam the antidote to all its victims upon its death. I think the car looks a little like Christine.

This song is another of my all time favorite songs. It was written and sung by Grace Slick when she was with Jefferson Airplane in '65/'66. I remember this one from Detroit. These were the Hippy days. My buddy Gary (RIP, my friend) was a wheeler/dealer. He had a girlfriend who lived in a home for wayward girls or whatever. She wasn't a bad girl. Her mom had her when she was about 16 and was just unable to raise her. So she stayed there during the week and could go out during the day over the weekend. Gary would go get her and we'd all hang out.

During the week, Gary had 3 or 4 other "girlfriends." Downtown in Detroit was Kennedy Square. It covered an entire city block and had a really nice fountain in the center. During the week, all the office workers would come out there to enjoy a summer day and have their lunch. So Gary would have his girls panhandle around the square. By evening, we'd have plenty to eat on, buy beer, then go back to our "pad" to hang out, get high and have fun. This was also before computers. So it was easy for Gary to get all of his ladies signed up for welfare, unemployment, and maybe 2 or 3 other city/county programs. So we all got along pretty good.

So, once we got our buzz on, we'd start getting more and more into the music. This is one of those songs. It starts out slow. Then it grows as the song proceeds, finally a very strong ending. Man, these girls have quite strong lungs to really belt out that ending. I've heard a couple of weak-voiced ladies try to sing it, and it just doesn't work. Catch the part about mushrooms.
"And you've just had some kind of mushroom and your mind is moving on."

Back then, there was, of course, weed. We also had LSD, cocaine and whatever else. There were also Psilocybin mushrooms, pronounced "sil- (as in silly) o-cybin. They are a psychedelic thing. I think they may be illegal, I don't remember. But they are legal for Indian tribes as they are used in their religious ceremonies to gain "enlightenment." When I visited a friend south of Seattle, he lived in a cabin on a mountainside. Pretty cool place. We went out and collected mushrooms. I did a little coke, but only when someone offered me some. It was (probably still is) quite expensive - something like $90/gram? Plus, it never seemed to do anything to me. I also know that I had a little acid, (LSD) maybe 2 or 3 times. I stopped when I realized I was in my 10th story hotel room sitting on the window sill (back then, you could still open hotel windows,) watching the birds and wondering how it would be to just fly around over the city like they were. I suddenly started thinking, "Walt! Get out of here and close the damn window." I had started feeling like I could fly like the birds. So I got in bed and stayed there, along with some pretty cool/weird fantasies. But that was the last time. Anyway, Here is the original followed by a cover by Haley Reinhart. My goodness, is SHE hot! Girl, with them legs, you need to expect a few dirty old farts to be watching you and drooling all over their shirts  In Graces video, note all of the psychedelia behind her, That was the thing in early rock concerts during the Hippy phase, It looks pretty pathetic now. But back then, we were all, "Oh, Wow! Far out, Man. Right on!" lol. Yep. Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end.

I hereby nominate Haley as our next VNA girl. She sure makes my candle wick stand up straight. Would surely love watching sweet Haley get plowed.

Off topic for this thread but the main psychedelics (LSD and psilocybin) were made illegal and classified as a class 1 illegal substance by Nixon. Being class 1 means people can't even do research with government funding, even though psychedelics show great promise in the treatment of things like anxiety, depression, PTSD and other problems. The main psychedelic that native North Americans used (that I am aware of) is mescaline. There is a great docuseries called How To Change Your Mind on Netflix that covers all of these (plus MDMA which came along in the late 70s and early 80s). The book of the same name is also great if you prefer books.

I remember reading about some of that. I was always on the outer fringe of things, not into the inner workings of anything. I'm just glad that I dabbled where I did and moved on. I'm sure some of that stuff was serious. And, to just take something just because someone gave it to you? Crazy!

Announcing the loss of Raquel Welch on the RIP thread brought to mind her appearance on The Muppet Show. That led me to think about my favorite musical routine by Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem, from The Muppet Movie. I started to post it there, but it led to my remembering a couple of good numbers by Dr. John, who had an influence on the design and mannerisms of Dr. Teeth. So, I figured I should just move that portion over here to the All Other Music thread.

Although, I kinda like both of Sia's versions of Iko Iko a little better, and not just because she has great gams. Well, o.k., the first version for musical preference over Dr. John's version ,and the second version for the legs.

Just sitting here enjoying a little great music.

Orianthi is good. She is coming to El Paso soon. I would LOVE to go see her, but I just don't think that my knees would allow that big a crowd anymore.

Here she is at Skyville, doing her own version of "Pride and Joy."

.
Next, Orianthi with Billy Gibbons doing "Sharp Dressed Man" at Skyville.
.
phpBB [media]

.
How about "La Grange?". ZZ Ward also appears in this one.
.

.
Here's ZZ Ward doing a NASCAR intro from 2018, Tom Petty's "Running Down a Dream." How many drivers can you identify in the clip.

.
Here is Orianthi with Melissa Ethridge, Lindsay Ell (Hot blonde in white) Cam (Yellow Shirt) and Troi Irons.

OK, one more that I like. Lindsay Ell is quite a performer, too. She generally does mellower music. Here's one of hers I like.

This is hilarious. I love this song. I remember it from 1958.

Dad liked the Country music of the day. He'd get up early in the morning and go listen to his Hallicrafters Short-Wave radio while having his coffee. This morning, a cartoon I watch used 6 songs in it's panels. I knew 4 of them, 3 were early country songs and the fourth was The Rolling Stones, lol.
(In case you remember, 1) was Ernest Tubb - "Walking The Floor Over You," 2) was Hank WIlliams - "Your Cheatin' Heart" and 3) was Patsy Cline - "Walkin' after Midnight.")

While looking up a couple of those, I found this one in the previews. Back in the '50's smoking was still a 'fashionable' thing. TV ads touted the pleasures of having a smoke after that delicious meal. There was The Marlboro Man, a rugged-looking cowboy who looked cool to the ladies while puffing on his ciggie. And then they discovered that cigarettes were killing people left and right. I'm sure that's what got my grandfather at about 65.
But this is funny, I thought. Listen to the words.

Smoke, smoke smoke that cigarette.
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death.
Tell St, Peter at the Golden Gate that you hate to make him wait,
But you just gotta have another cigarette.

This is the original version, written and performed by Tex Williams in 1947.
.
phpBB [media]

.
This is more of a comedy version, by Johnny Bond & His Red River Valley Boys (Sounds like there's a girl in there, too, lol.)
.
phpBB [media]

.
And, finally, I ran across this version by Grampa Jones. Remember him? Quite famous in the Country world and with the Grand Ole Opry. He changed up the words a bit.

This is a hard song for me to listen to, thanks to an old relationship. But I love it. It has become quite popular since Christine McVie died. It's even in a commercial or two. This first version is by "Rumors of Fleetwood Mac." and they are quite good. The second is the Fleetwood Mac version. Would you believe it was written in 1987?

I think I did this before, but don't feel llike looking. Sorry.

"Achy, Breaky Heart" was a cute little song. But they played it so much, people started getting sick of it. So sick that Weird Al Yankovic did a cover of it. Weird Al is cool. He's done a lot of parodi9es. My favorites are 3 or 4 of Michael Jackson's songs. They are good.

I like Weird Al's songs. A lot of singers wanted him to do parodies of their songs because whenever he did the original would get a big bump in sales.

I hate these "shorts" that are showing up on FaceBook and, I believe, lots of other places. Why? What the hell good does a 30 second cut of a song do me? Well, absolutely nothing. Many of them are absolutely nothing. For example, one might say "Wait for it...." So you watch it - and absolutely NOTHING happens. Or they'll show a small part of a pretty good performer doing a song you really like. Then, just when you're getting into it, it stops. SOOOOOOOOO frustrating. And, I"m a hundred. I can't handle all this stress and strife! :rotffl:

So anyway, I may have beat it. If you look around the edges of the clip, you might find the info you need to track it down. Here are two I finally found on YouTube. So at least I got the entire performance. Now I can sing along to the whole song and impress the hell out of Bailey. :lmao:

And, I like Johnny Cash. So I love singing along with this one.

We all have whatever music we like. I grew up with '50's, then '60's, then '70's rock. Seventies rock developed into groups like Pink Floyd. Then people liked some of the music so much they started playing it.

I am kind of a purist. That means, that, while I can handle the occasional personal touch to a favorite song, I pretty much want to hear the songs like as I learned them all those years ago.

Comes Melanie. Melaine seems to be a purist. She does this song exactly like the original. See if you agree. This was another of those cool "stoner" songs. You loved to get a load on, put on this record, light the candles, turn down the lights, then lie back in your pillow chair with your honey and just let the pleasure wash over you.
