Elton John...

Thanks for those John!

It's been quite some time that I listened to Elton John, but no matter how many years go by, my ears love to be coddled with some good Elton songs. The all time favorite has to be the Diana track though. Also because of the impact of the happening.

Here is some music from Anime series.

I fell in love the 4 ladies of Bond years ago when they appeared in a television commercial. Each is a highly trained and accomplished musician. They decided to up they ante with amplified string instruments and some obvious sex appeal. Some of their music is original but some is famous classical music with their special twist.

(Kinda got carried away here, but hope you enjoy.)

The Beach Boys showing up Fri, June 15th on Good Morning America - a classic group from the early days of Rock and Roll. The surf sound, then the car sound, were important stops on the progression of Rock and Roll to where it is now. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, deservedly so.

Long live The Beach Boys. The first three clips are with David Marks on rythym guitar. Al Jardine started with the group, then was replaced by 13 Y.O. David when Al left to pursue college studies. In 1963, Brian Wilson asked Al to rejoin the group, which he did.

Notice how much this one resembles Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen."



And, finally, one of their greatest hot rod hits - 409. The 409 was a burning hot Chevrolet engine from the early/mid 60's, the 409 meaning 409 cubic inches displacement, or CID. It was the hottest engine of it's day (the 428" came out later,) but it's durability, or lack there-of, led to its demise. The 348, their second hottest that came out in 1958, suffered the same fate. I had a 1958 Impala with a 283" engine bored out to 301" CID. A very hot car. A friend had a Bel-Air with a 348" Tri-Power - tri-power meaning 3 two barrel carburetors. Pretty damn hot cars. The muscle cars of the late 50s/early 60s were truly a sight to behold. I think that gas prices primilarily led to the demise of the large-bore engines of the 60's, but that may have been only a contributing factor. The song mentions a "4-speed, dual-quad, positraction 409." 4-Speed is the transmission, dual-quad meant 2-4 barrel carburetors (usually Holley) and positraction was a special rear end which helped keep power applied to both rear wheels, instead of the standard rear end, which tended to send all of the power to whichever rear wheel had the least traction.

I like the first comment after this vid - "A song from the days when "409" was the size of your engine, not the price per gallon for gas."




Of course, racebuilt, but 6.8 seconds, 108 mph, standing start 1/4 mile.

During the Adultcon weekend, I saw that video quite a few times on the television, on ABC I believe. When I came back in Holland and told a few friends about it and asked if they had seen it too, they were like: "Huh, what are talking about?!" lol Nice to see it again!

Turns out there's tons of these on YouTube. Just search the title. Must be a pretty popular song.

'scuse me for reminiscing a bit, but today, as many know, is the anniversary of Elvis Presleys death. Not only did he have just about the smoothest, yet most exciting voice in music, his sex appeal to women was just unbelieveable. So, in honor of his memory, I present first, the reason we're all here with Vicky and the ladies of the VNA - Girl Happy!

This one is why they only filmed him from the waist up on future shows. The parents of the day were aghast! They responded in record numbers at the "vulgar and dirty" performance of "this heathen." Mild by todays standards? To say the least. The King is dead. Long live the King

I always liked how Elvis used the background singers. They remind me a lot of a barbershop quartet. "Bop....bop"

Forgot to come back and comment on the movie thing. The movies they showed all day were a selection of the worst movies he ever made - even he said so. "Stay Away, Joe" has to be a candidate for the absolutely worst movie ever made. The only decent ones shown here were "Girl Happy" (early morning) and "Jailhouse Rock" (late night.)

Sidebar: Judy Tyler, the female lead in Jailhouse Rock, and her new husband were driving home thru Wyoming right after filming completed. They were killed in a traffic accident near a roadside stop. Judy died instantly and her husband in the hospital the next day. For this reason, Elvis never watched this movie.

"As their '57 Chevy approached Wild Bill's curio store and Petting Zoo - 3 miles north of Rock River, Wyoming - Greg swerved to avoid a car with a trailer pulling out into the southbound lane of US-287 in front of the tourist stop. Their car skidded into the northbound lane of US-287 and was broad sided. Judy was mortally wounded and died at the scene. A passenger in the northbound car was also killed. Her husband, Greg, died the next day at Ivinson Hospital in Laramie of a broken back. The pets in the car perished as well."
