This weekend is the 10th of the renewed Pop festivals on the Isle of Wight..( after 500,000 turned up in 1971 they were banned for 40 years).
This years headline acts include..Pixie Lott..Jeff Beck..Kings of Leon and Kaiser Chiefs.
To be honest they mean nothing to me but 70.000 tickets have been sold for the event..so what do I know lol.
For a full line up, for those interested in Pop music go to isleofwightfestival.com

Didn't the Who do that original concert?

500,000 vs 70,000? I would say that's an indicator of where the popular music is/was. I don't know the real number ("There's about 300,000 of you fuckers out there...." Country Joe McDonald,) but, as we all know, there was quite the crowd at Max Yasgurs farm, too, (Woodstock) 3 or 4 times 70,000?

According the the NY Time article in 1969, 400,000 attended the original Woodstock Music and Arts festival, and half of them did not have a ticket. No, I didn't read the original article, nor keep the clipping! I was too young to read!

In 1971 it was held in an open site,in a valley, hardly anybody paid as they could see and hear from the slopes. (Also skinny dippping from public beaches wasn't too well received..Flower people lol)Nowadays the number is restricted , sold out by January, and held on a closed site.
Jimmy Hendrix was the star name,I think it was his last public appearance, there is a statue of him near where the event took place.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, I believe that Bob Dylan performed at the 2nd Isle Of Wight Festival in 1969 & Jimi Hendrix performed at the 1970 Festival in his last concert performance just before his death on September 18th that year.

You're right Steve ..I'm a year out.
Also the first 1968 was headlined by "Airplane" and attended by about 10,000.
Hendrix seems to have gained immortality by dying.
After the 1970 show Parliament passed "The Isle of Wight Act" forbidding such large assemblies on the Island.

VNA, I am an old fart and former Hippie and in 1969 (what a great year) I was 19 and attended Woodstock. Even had tickets HRL. Lots of rain, mud, drugs music and sex. Lucky back then that our STD fears were just crabs and permethrin based treatments without Rx were in any drug store.

Somehow, I often think how did I ever make it past 60? And where was Rokkerr then? None of us cared much about if 400K or 500K people there as we humped, toaked shoe boxes full of free pre-rolled joints and other tablets. Rokkerr now you know that in addition to supporting kinky Sue & Laura that I really need the "Vicky Magic Bus" to HELL! Thank god the statute of limitations expired after 40 years on admitted drug usage and maybe even some under aged chick banging! Some may have been only 16 or 17 but hey I was “Every ready” and 19! Still fell almost as often hard as back then.

Oh and Airplane! During a Grateful Dead gig during 1967 in Rochester NY that I attended, Grace Slick and Starship team were in the audience. Jerry Garcia, Mountain Lady and the boys talked Airplane into joining the jamming maybe some drugs too and show rocked on till like 4 AM!

Imagine the OT for the arena staff and Cops with 20K stoned freaks loose on the streets at 4 AM! Check this fact out. New York State right away passed a law that all concerts MUST end at midnight. Rock on Airplane and Dead!

I got several hand jobs from Hippie chicks as I fondled boobs and clits. Some may remember those hippie cotton dresses with easy access to nude under perky hot dripping wet bodies. Grope and get stroked as we stood only 20 feet in pit near the stage. Free Pot too! And OH the Base sound made those Clits throb, Nips up and Cocks so Hard.

And some think that I may be just a Nashville Country Music Hick?

VNA,

Dang that Jebby has a sorted past and was a very Bad Boy!

Before our time, but were Hippie chicks really that easy and free with sex?

Walt, Benny, Johnnie Boy NYC, Vectis and others any adventures to tell? Guess that with fewer known STS and the lack of those fears helped? Had rubbers been invented yet? LOL!!!

We will spank Bad Old Jebby again,

Laura And Sue

:offtopic: Rubbers (condoms) wwere invented ,in fact the Navy issued them free to sailors going ashore, just nip into the sick bay and pick them up .
In earlier times ,late 50's and early 60's ,some girls did but most didn't(an engagement ring was usually the key), by the end of the 60's more girls did,but still a minority, however more latitude was given for wandering hands.
My big story from the early 60's was in Adelaide,4 Petty Officers and 4 nurses,we thought after the 1st night that we might swap around, but they swapped us lol,5 glorious days.
Except ,don't go skinny dipping at midnight, the water is freezing and causes great pain in a delicate part of the male anatomy and don't shag on the beach ,sand gets in everwhere,
