Couldn't find anyplace to put this so decided to make a newbie. Don't know if Bobbi is into much sports or not. Bobbi? Seems like I've seen you comment elsewhere.
Anyway, lazy Saturday TV surfing and ran across The Womens World Cup of Softball on ESPN. USA vs the Netherlands. Was 1 - 0 Netherlands when I tuned in. Now bottom of 6th, tied 1 - 1. I think they play 7 innings.
Playing in Oklahoma City.
Uhoh, solo home run. 2 - 1 USA.
USA got 2 on, but the last batter popped out. 1 chance for The Netherlands.
No luck - 3 up and 3 down, 2 pop flies and one strike out. USA wins 2 - 1.

Darts? Are you good at math? As you need to be able to add in Cricket. And subtract in the 01 games.BobbieEden wrote:I like sport yes.. to watch hehe .. but more soccer.... tour de france... and darts ...;)
I think 501 is the best game. Double in, double out

I don't know about darts but I know that the dutch are getting ready to kick everybodys ass in cycling during the olympics that start in London in a few weeks. Even though the Netherlands is a relatively small country, they do definitely win their share of metals in every olympics. They usually win lots of metals but they tend to dominate in cycling in the Summer Games and during the Winter Olympics they are very good in speed skating. I know I'll be rooting for them (and I'm an american). Here's one more thing.....you can always tell all of the fans for Netherlands by all of the ORANGE that you see everywhere!!

Over the weekend, I saw your countrywomen Marianne Vos "kick ass" taking the gold medal in women's cycling. The race itself was pretty exciting but I don't know how long it was (maybe 100km) anyway, it lasted 3 1/2 hours and well into the race it started raining and the surface they were racing on got very slippery and people started wiping out and crashing. The finish was very close with the 3 cyclists well ahead of everyone else. They all knew they would get a medal but the only question was which one? In the end Vos powered for the winning Gold for the Netherlands with the UK getting Silver and Russia getting the Bronze. There was less than a second between the 3 of them. Yeah, GO NEDERLAND!!
We use to play darts but we played 301, in a league, it was fun and I enjoyed it. One night I threw 2 hat tricks in one game!!!
BOOB 300 points!

May your rifle never hang fire and your powder always be dry.
By coincidence I was watching that race last weekend in my hotel room. My first reaction when I put it on: "Hey! London. Europe. It's raining again. And now it's my turn to be in sunny LA". Vos is a woman who has already won so many prizes. It wasn't a big surprise she'd win the sprint. The girl from the UK was later on interviewed by NBC and she honestly admitted that first place wasn't realistic and that she's happy with the silver medal. Nice achievement by Vos. Furthermore, I don't think we're doing so well at the Olympics, are we..?scottb wrote:Over the weekend, I saw your countrywomen Marianne Vos "kick ass" taking the gold medal in women's cycling. Phelps was impressive though, but that's not for this thread. And lol @ Quinter with his 'hagelslag'.

Gert-Jan, we are 1 week into the olympics and as of Saturday the Netherlands is in 12th place with 8 medals (3G1S4B) and there is alot of olympics to go. Your neighbor Belgium has only 2 medals and Switzerland (with all of their money) just got their 1st one yesterday. Don't sell yourselves short! GO NEDERLAND!!!
Yay! Did you see us swimming (Women's 50m Freestyle) Saturday?! Hockey will get us 2 more medals as well.scottb wrote:Gert-Jan, we are 1 week into the olympics and as of Saturday the Netherlands is in 12th place with 8 medals (3G1S4B) and there is alot of olympics to go. I haven't really checked all of the athletes, but, taking the standings at some point - China 24, USA 23, Great Britain 17, and down from there. Is the large medal count due to those countries athletes great strength and prowess or are there simply more antletes in more events.
So, if Mongolia's 3 medals are because they only have 10 athletes in 3 events, then it becomes a bit more meaningful than, say, the US with maybe 100 athletes in 85 events (as an example, not actual numbers.)
And, today, The Netherlands is in 11th place with 15 medals. not too bad in MY book, considering there are 215 countries entered, with 131 of those with no medals.

Valid point Walt. But they make the list based on achieved gold medals:WalterB wrote: So, if Mongolia's 3 medals are because they only have 10 athletes in 3 events, then it becomes a bit more meaningful than, say, the US with maybe 100 athletes in 85 events (as an example, not actual numbers.)
10. Kazakhstan (6 gold, 0 silver, 2 bronze, 8 total)
11. Australia (5 gold, 12 silver, 9 bronze, 26 (!) in total)
Let's go extreme. Country X has 30 medals, all silver. Country Y has 1 medal, but it's a golden one. In that case, country Y would still be ranked above country X! Okay, that sounds as if I'm a teacher and we're in math class, sorry for that...
>> Wikipedia medal ranking << always up to date. Ignore the words, just have a look at the list.
Dismissed!

No, the list I was looking at were listing all of the individual medals, but also the total medal count. And I was mainly concerned with total count. It was ranked by total medals, not by Gold. I guess you can make arguments all day long about which way it should be. I've also seen other blogs about weighing the list by the number of athletes in attendance, all valid arguments.
If China has more Gold, but the US has more total, which is the winner?
That's one thing about statistics. You can skew them almost any way you want.

As of this writing, The Netherlands is now in 11th place (in the world) with 16 medals which is what I believe an extraordinary feat for a country of ony about 17 million people. You guys have 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals. Not too shabby!! You should be "Very Proud" of yourselves (and the games aren't over yet). GO NEDERLAND!!
GOLD AGAIN. A few minutes ago the Dutch hockey-ladies won the gold medal by beating Argentina bij 2-0. Let´s hope our male hockeyteam will do te same tomorrow by beating Germany. So Bobbi, i think it´s time to put on your orangedress. Hope to see you in it one off these days.
