Back in the day... lol...when there was no/less piracy, and dvd production was still huge, (talking early 2000's) girls could work every day if they wanted to. The girls who did not live in LA, but went there for 2 weeks at a time could schedule out 2 scenes a day if they wanted to! Everyone would book them because they weren't local, so if they missed them on this trip, they would have to wait 3 or 6 months to get a chance to shoot them. So directors would clear a day and shoot a scene in advance for an upcoming movie, just to be sure to have that girl in it. Sadly nowadays, DVD production is probably at 1/4 of what it used to be, so there are not that many scenes to shoot. A lot of girls who live in LA cannot pay their rent by shooting scenes, so they are all working stream mate and escorting. Plus the companies make "compilations", DVD's that have hours and hours of older scenes on it. Vivid is all about comps. They pay the girl for one scene, and it ends up in 20 or 30 different movies. I have only ever shot 2 scenes for vivid (other than the Devil & Mrs J), and those 2 scenes are in maybe 40 compilations, I'm not kidding, blondes movies, milf movies, bj movies, anal movies, 2on1 movies, etc... they keep using the same scenes over and over, cut up different ways, different pics on the covers.... of course we never see a dime from it. No royalties, we are paid a day wage and that's it.

It's a great way to get yourself out there. But it would seem that at some point you have to control your own career. Having said that, it does seem that there are numerous successful ladies out there.

To me, it's kind of like movie stars. There are many actors and actresses out there, but only a relative few are "stars."
