Some good news for you all.

Yesterday, I found out that I was approved for a promotion I had been seeking since I was rehired a year and a half ago (long story there, but that's for later). I am now back at full time as an overnight cashier, with an extra $1/hr boost to my salary. My first day at my new position was last night.

In addition to the higher pay and the more consistent hours and schedule (straight 10P - 7A, 5 days/wk, as compared to only 32 hours a week all over the place), it's much less stressful, since I don't have to worry about having to stand in everywhere along the "front end", as I did in my former position.

Of course, the only fallback is that I will have to adjust to sleeping during the day...and I may not be as active on this board as I was when I was working days. NO, I'm not leaving by any means, but if you see slightly less of me, you now know why.

As the saying goes...life is good. At least, it doesn't suck all the time.

Good deal, Anthony. Glad t hear that. Don't know about nites, tho. It's fine of you like it, but I never did.

My last job was a 24 hr operation, so we had to all share in the rotation. They tried most everything to give everyone a fair shot at days. It was usually 6 weeks on, then switch to the next, then 6 weeks later the next, etc. I think the best was when times were slow. We worked 3 12's and then a 4 or 6. But the rest of that day off, then 3 more days off. That was nice. Didn't mind the 3 12's to get 3-1/2 days off.
I can resist everything except temptation.

my cousin has that kind of weird schedule, he works at the airport, 3 days on , 3 nites or evenings. Must be hell on them but also its hard to plan things like for family gatherings.

Congrats on having a steady job and the pay raise, beats having to sleep all different hours all the time eh

Big congratulations to you, Anthony!

I have a friend at a radiostation, working the Graveyard Shift, also. You'll be surprised how fast the body adjusts to such significantly different sleeping pattern. Don't take my word for it, though... it's just what he told me, lol. Glad to hear things are going in the right direction for you now!

The way my schedule was before I was promoted, HT, you didn't know whether or not you would be opening in the morning, closing in the evening, or even which days off (2 per week) you would get. I could be scheduled to come to work as early as 5:30 in the morning one day, and the very next day have to work a "closing" shift up to 11 PM or even midnight....and every shift in between, too.

Plus...since I was rehired as part-time, I wasn't getting the kind of hours I was getting when I first worked full time (averaging 32 hours a week). Trust me, 40 hours does help...and that extra dollar an hour won't hurt my wallet, either.

Needless to say, when the opportunity for the open position came around, I was quick to grab it. I had to wait a bit until our annual inventory was finished, though, before they made the switch.

I'm just enjoying my nights off tonight and tomorrow before I get back to it on Thursday.

Not quite that hellish, because the workplace schedules are made three weeks in advance, but they can alter them based on "business need", or so they say.

Hopefully, I will be able to make more shows...but with morning sleep, you never know.

Congratulations on your promotion Anthony. :yeahbaby:

I worked the 11pm to 7:30am shift for 26 years and it has it's advantages and drawbacks.
I could say I got used to it after all that time but it is not natural.

Congrats. Getting a job is the most important bit.
The body does adjust, :) I work a lot of nights myself. I agree, I am not as fit/well conditioned as I used to be, but I do survive!
