So this is what we have been working on lately... i figured it deserved it's own thread. Over the next few weeks, every view of the schedules will have this drop down menu in it. When you go to the page initially, it will default to the timezone that you are in. (by looking at your ip address).

Can you guys check this out and let me know if we are missing any time zones? It made more sense to use the locations, rather than CST PST MST etc... cause most people would be confused and not know what they were.

I think that's a great idea. But ,there ain't no stinkin' El Paso!

There may be some around the world you missed, I don't know, because I don't know where everyone is from. But, if people will speak up and post something, I know you'll include them. If you have all 24 time zones covered, that should get everyone. I would think most people (Julie) would know a major city in their time zone, even if MooseFuck, Alberta isn't there.

I like the idea. Make the link prominent. Are you going to just replace the current schedules with this one? You don't want too many of basically the same product up there to confuse people.

Oh, and it didn't default to my time zone. It sent me to Seattle, which is one time zone west of good old downtown El Paso.

I can all ready see that I"m going to have to get used to the "time change." I'm used to seeing the time and automatically converting it to local time by subtracting 2 hours. Now I'm doing that, and I get it wrong.

Great idea! This is gonna be SO helpful for SO many people!

If you really wanna get everything right, though, there are several countries listed which officially belong in the category half hour time zones. They maintain an extra 30 minute offset from GMT. For example, Sara's show starts at 8pm tonight. I tried it out and the schedule suggests it will start at 8pm local time in Venezuela (Caracas). However, in real life her show starts at 8.30pm their time, meaning members from Venezuela will be 30 minutes late. It works the other way around on the other side of the world; 30 minutes early.

Just like on Walt's end, it didn't default to my time zone, either. And when I click "Mumbai", I get the time in Indianapolis....

I get the right time when I click on Denver (It's in the same TZ as me.) I didn't try Mumbai.

It just doesn't default to MST when I log in to it. I have to select it.

But, what the hell is wrong with those people? 24 time zones isn't enough?

Ok, think I'm getting a handle on this. When I click the link in Vicky's post. It opens on Seattle time. But, if I change it, then save the link to my Favorites, then every time I open it, it opens on the correct time.

The ip checking thing isn't active yet, I was just anxious to show it to you, what it was going to look like. Once it's live and you go to any schedule page it will default to your ip's timezone, but the pulldown will always be there so if you are using a proxy ip from a different country to hide from the wife or the boss, you can change it. Also I think if you bookmark it, it will bookmark the timezone you chose. I wasn't aware of the 30 min thing.... will have to look into it further! Thanks for the comments, this is what I need.

It's a great idea Vicky, especially for us Europeans as before we had to factor in the time difference from us to the East coast of the USA. The longer I have been here the easier it has become to remember. However, this idea really works for me and makes it so much easier for us all to remember the exact times they are on in each time zone. Thanks Vicky :)

ok so this is live now.

The way it works is, when you land on the page, the system reads your ip and takes a guess at what time zone you are in based on that. You use the pulldown to change it if you need to. It stores a cookie in your browser so every time you go back to the schedule page it will remember you and display the correct time zone for you.
