You may have already heard or read by now that I intend on publishing a cookbook (hopefully this year) ... I've also started writing an autobiography. I sat down at the computer today, spent a couple hours reading and figuring out how exactly to use the program needed to create a book, then started writing. Strangely, I found it much easier than I'd have ever thought. I rarely have much "down time" and I'm filming 4 days straight next week, but I've already written 6 pages and I'm pretty excited about this new adventure :)

I'm writing an auto-bio to leave my son. Nothing as exciting as yours, for sure, but it is pretty nice to go back and recall/relive some of those really good times (and, yes, even the bad ones.)
I can resist everything except temptation.

After Mom died, I was left with going thru the folks stuff and disposing of everything. One thing I found was Dads collection of cards they had given each other over the years. Christmas, birthdays, Valentines, etc. One thing I noticed in reading some of them was how Dad would underline the important parts. You know, like, when the card says, "Even when I was away, I always loved you dearly." It would read, "Even when I was away, I always loved you dearly."
I always did that, and I always had this crazy idea that I was the only one. To see that Dad did it, and to read these cards, made me see them not as parents, but as people - two people in love, just like I had been. I guess I never thought of them that way. A couple times I had asked them about their youth, about their childhoods, about before they met. But, not much. After reading the cards, I wished I had asked them much, much more.
After I had bought my second motorcycle, Dad told me how he used to ride a motorcycle in the Army. I had never known that. He told me about how he played when he was growing up poor in Greenville, Tx. Mom told me about going to the movies down at the Plaza Theater. But I wished that I knew a lot more. And I decided that I wanted my son to know who I was as a person - what my childhood was like, when my pet dog got run over; when I used to play Cops and Robbers on my bike with my buddy Tinker; about when I ran over a girl on the way home from school; about learning to play the trumpet in the 5th grade, which led me to my high school sweetheart; about my travels, about my jobs, about meeting and marrying his mother.
You are right, Charlee, I think this s a great idea for everyone with children. It reminds me of a project that is going around and talking to WWII survivors, to get their history down on tape, to save for future generations. Think about it, folks. It's not a bad idea. It's not for 20 somethings. But, if you've reached 50, or especially 60, think about it. Not only will you be pleasantly surprised by remembering and reliving those old memories, but you'll be leaving your children a real piece of yourself.

I think that's a fantastic idea ... and even useful for 20 somethings. Start writing ... and simply add to it as things in your life happen!!

I'm now 2 paragraphs into chapter 2. This is much easier than I thought it would be - though time consuming of course - since I had to completely learn by myself how to use the program I'm using to write it. That's the most challenging part so far. The words are coming easily.

Anxious to read it, Charlee.
And, you're right. Starting as a 20 something might save trying to recall details 40 years down the road. With computers, it's easy to write in a Word document, then save it on a zip drive or something. Then I take it when I travel, and can add to it if I have some down time.
Cut and paste sure beats the hell out of white-out, too. (Don't know what white-out is? You're a kid, lol.)

After filming today, I came up to the computer to start working on editing the scenes filmed today. After I edited the first, I re-read what I'd written for my book so far and continued writing. I'm now at 24 pages and counting :)

I can't believe how easy it is. Granted, it's all about me ... from my childhood until now, so it's not as if I'm trying to create something from thin air. I've already planned out my second book for if this goes well!

Time to go relax for the night. Finishing up my writing tonight and ending on page 62. I could easily sit here all night!

Having the day off really let my creativity flow. I'm now on page 78 and still intend to do more writing later tonight!
....and then to think some writers complain about how to overcome a writer's block, lol... 78 pages is CRAZY!! Charlee as the new JK Rowling?
