We found out from Benny's wife that Benny is VERY sick.
Benny did some tremendous stuff around here including the banners on the board and is a friend of a lot of you. He predates most of us here... I think having met Vicky in 2005.
Anyway, I don't know ALL the details but Benny suffered a stroke I think (or maybe worse).
He is VERY sick. If you like post some well wishes here and we will pass them along address.
You can also write to him at bena26@sbcglobal.net

If we ever have a VNA Hall of Fame... he is in it.

Yeah I spoke to him last night, it was hard to understand him and his voice was very weak. If I understand things correctly he is partially paralyzed, and has lost the use of his hands/arms? Like I said it was hard to make out what he was saying. I sent him some chocolate aspirins and and a can of chicken soup, made from chocolate and some other stuff too, from the vna. Not that we can help in any way, but at least I wanted him to know that there are a lot of people here who care about him. His lifetime membership here is always good and he can come back and hang out the minute he feels up to it or is able to. I told him to stay in touch, and if he can't, that Christine should stay in touch with us and keep us up to date. I think Walt is pretty close to them as well, so I'm sure he will be speaking to Christine shortly. I was shocked when I heard his voice, it's tragic. He only retired about a year or two ago... At this time he is supposed to be enjoying his life and the fruits of his labor.

You just know someone is incredibly talented when he has his own "Why Did You Do This In Photoshop?" thread. Do you guys remember that awesome promo poster Benny made for Exxxotica Chicago last year?
Hoping and praying for a full recovery. Get well soon, Benny.

I talked to Benny this morning. I could understand him pretty good, Vicky. I could tell he wasn't his old self, but we talked for 10 - 15 minutes and I understood him well. He said that one arm/hand was out of service, so he couldn't play his guitar or photoshop anymore. He is at home and can walk with a walker, so he is thankful for that. They all ready have him started on some rehab. He did say that it has messed up his brain, so he might go off on jags on occasion. He might go into a crying jag, or get mad for no reason.
A stroke is generally caused by a blood clot or some other blockage of blood flow to the brain. It generally affects one side of the body, and can interfere with speech and motor functions. The best "cure," if you will, is rehab involving the reteaching of your brain, to train other parts of your brain to take over the functions you need to relearn. The brain can certainly relearn certain functions and other parts of the brain will step up and take over some functions, which is what rehab is about. So getting Benny started early is a good thing. He seemed a little down, but at this moment, I think he remains optimistic, if maybe also a bit depressed.
Benny will come back, maybe a little worse for wear, but he has great support from his family. Christine is a wonderful and loving wife, and Benny has his children coming by to help. Lots of family to help and support.

At some point I'll print out this thread and mail it to him, or ask Christine to log in and read it all to him...

This is some really tragic and sad news. Benny is one of the nicest guys here in the VNA. His early efforts made the board here and other places around at Vicky's website and all the ladies websites a much more comfortable experience. He has helped Vicky with many photoshop projects and with all the other art related work that these were helpful in taking the board to another level and making it a much better place. I just hope that he gets better through rehabilitation. If he puts his mind to it, he'll strive to meet those goals and he'll accomplish many great things in getting well. His family and friends, including all the ones here including Vicky, Dave, Walter, and Julie will help him get past this very dark time. I'll continue to pray for Benny, Christine and all of his family.
