Has anyone here ever had the Lasik surgery? I had it in 2000 and I was good till around 2006 when I had to start wearing glasses/ contacts again. I hate wearing contacts so much, my eyes get dry and irritated and red. Hate doing any type of sports things with glasses on, they get in the way at the gym and slide down the sweat on the nose running.... I went to the eye doctor yesterday to get a check up and order new contact lenses and he mentioned that in his opinion I had enough tissue left on the cornea to do the procedure again, or have a "touch up!" So I'm going for a consult on friday to see if I'm a good candidate for that! I especially hate swimming with a contact, I'm always afraid of losing it in the ocean, and wearing prescription sunglasses with water on them sucks too... I'm so excited! If they say I can do it, I'm gonna get it done as soon as humanly possible!

Nope, I'm much too squeamish about that kind of stuff. Yep! TheOldGuy is just one big Cluck Cluck Cluck. Well, that and I could never afford it, lol. I do hear that it can restore your eyesight to near perfection.

I'm dangerously close to booking lasik surgery maybe this fall...my eyes are bad enough so that when I have contacts in I still have to wear reading glasses.

I've only heard of one procedure that didn't quite go as planned but was corrected with an additional visit to the lab.

I've had many relatives do it and they swear by the procedure....they are getting better and better at it and I'm almost persuaded to have it done as well.

Well even once I have the surgery, I'll still have to wear reading glasses to work on the computers or read a menu, so will you, lol.. that's just our age and there's nothing they can do about that!

I am in the same boat even if I have the Lasik I would still need the reading glasses , which is the thing that drives me the most crazy now I keep taking my regular glasses off so I can read and work and then I cant see them to put them back on

Well you could just increase the size of the font in windows or make the resolution smaller. who needs 1920x1080 for the windows desktop on a laptop? It just makes things so small.

I'd use one of them 55" TVs I bet it's great to watch and browse the web. Idk if they do flash or html5 but your puter can send the screen to the TV if It has hdmi or even over the air with miracast/chromecast/widi/etc

So I'm all booked for tomorrow! I arrive at the clinic a 9:15 for a last minute measurement (since not wearing contacts for 3 days straight my eyeball could have changed by microns), they give you a valium to chill you out at that point. Surgery is at 10. Out the door and on the way home by 11, with sleeping pills and instructions to go back to bed. I thought that was nuts. How can I go back to bed by noon? lol... but they said your eyes only heal when they are closed, so take the pills and go to sleep. Maybe I'll try to do a good workout tonight and then a good long run tomorrow morning, so at least I'll be tired....

They will give me a copy of my surgery on video, so I'll post it here, for all you squeamish people to see how easy it is....

Valiums? I'd ask for about 10.

So, does this mean that, after this, you'll be able to see when I flip you off in your cam show??? :nanah:

Gee, just what I wanted to watch - eyeball surgery. EWWwwww, lol. Ok, bring it on.

Good luck, Vicky. I know things will go well for you. Get that rest and we'll "see" you in a couple days.

Never got any Vicodin, but the valium was great! They asked if I wanted 5 mg or 10, so I said go big or go home, lol..... after about 10 min I was offering them my kidneys... hahaha... I said sure take anything you need! lol... At first I thought the surgery was totally successful, by last night I could see pretty well. Of course there's minor discomfort and you have to wear this goofy plastic thing over your eye but I could read the clock on the cable box from across the room so I thought I was doing great, right on schedule, with my drops every hour on the hour.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning with searing pain in my eye, it was red, puffy, could barely keep it open because of tearing and even a little pussy. Yuck, off to the doctors we went. Ater an exam they said I had a version of this:

Map-Dot-Fingerprint Dystrophy. This dystrophy occurs when the epithelium's basement membrane develops abnormally (the basement membrane serves as the foundation on which the epithelial cells, which absorb nutrients from tears, anchor and organize themselves). When the basement membrane develops abnormally, the epithelial cells cannot properly adhere to it. This, in turn, causes recurrent epithelial erosions, in which the epithelium's outermost layer rises slightly, exposing a small gap between the outermost layer and the rest of the cornea.

Epithelial erosions can be a chronic problem. They may alter the cornea's normal curvature, causing periodic blurred vision. They may also expose the nerve endings that line the tissue, resulting in moderate to severe pain lasting as long as several days. Generally, the pain will be worse on awakening in the morning. Other symptoms include sensitivity to light, excessive tearing, and foreign body sensation in the eye.

Basically all that mumbo jumbo means part of the incision (re-incision) on the flap is not healing. They said the cells stuck to the eyelid overnight and were torn off.. Nice huh? Why me? I did everything exactly as I was told, I was such a good girl. Oh well, it's not that serious, just a pain in the ass, and means healing will be that much slower. They actually put a protective contact lens over my eye so the cells underneath can heal, and it's smooth against my eyelid. I've got prednisone drops, antibiotic drops and some kind of vaseline like goop that goes in my eye overnight.

I have another appointment tomorrow at 3 to see if they can take the contact out, if not tomorrow then saturday latest. It should have healed enough underneath by then. They said it's always a risk even for first time lasiks, maybe slightly higher for 2nd time, but in the end will be worth it.

My only issue is I need it to be healed enough to go to GA on Monday, I have to be in court there on tuesday, and it's a 9 hour drive to get there. I am evicting a tenant who has not paid rent in 4 months but doesn't want to leave either. What a pain that is, it's so close to leaving for Exxxotica on thursday, it's gonna be a hell of a week next week, so I hope my eye co operates!

They gave me more sleeping pills too, I've never taken sleeping pills in my life and they leave me a little groggy...
