Doing an upload test to see how the new system works:




If all three pics show up, it's a Systems All Go.

Pictures work fine, Anthony. We're talking about Avatars.

I repeat, it's not working. I just tried it again. I have tried to upload an avatar that is 245x188. When I click submit, it tells me the picture is 1200x1600 or some ridiculous number. And, yes I have cleared my cache and rebooted.

You would have to reduce your photo to that size or smaller in order for it to download successfully.

You could use an app like GIMP or any decent photo editing software to reduce the size.

I'm well aware of that, Anthony. Read my instructions. I even posted 200x200 to be sure that pics stayed within the limit.

I have tried several pics that I have resized and none work.. When I look at the properties on the last one it says that it is 112 pixels by 200 pixels. When I try to upload it I get a message saying it is 2048 pixels wide and 1536 pixels high.

I'm still having problems, too, Greggl. I just tried a totally new picture from another folder. In the original folder I made a copy of a large picture. I then resized the copy down to 245x183. I then moved it to another folder, hoping to disassociate it from the original. I also moved the original to another folder. The properties in the new folder tell me it is 245x183, and 48 Kb. But, when I try to post it as an avatar, it tells me that it is too large, and shows me the original size of the original picture, which is 3648x2736. I do not know where the system is getting that information.

But, hang in there. I'm going to keep at it tomorrow and we'll get it fingered out.

GeorgeB posted 4 separate avatars after resizing them with no problems. He went back and forth from one to another and had no problems anywhere. After that, I tried again. Was able to post one that I had used before, but not the original that I had before all this started. More testing today.

Ok, this keeps getting weirder and weirder. My avatar has disappeared and I did nothing to change it.

After my original troubles, I went back to one I had resized and used before, and it worked. Now it has just disappeared. Not sure what to think about that. Don't feel like doing more troubleshooting right now, but will, maybe tomorrow.

OK, I got a new avatar up. Let's wait a couple days and see if it stays there.

First, I picked a picture and made a copy. Then I moved the copy to a new folder. I double-checked the size to ensure it was below the 250 requirement. It was. Then I posted it as my avatar, and it would not go. The error told me that the size was 3250 x 2845, or whatever the original was. I checked the picture again, and it said the picture was 245 X 198.

Then I made a copy of another in it's original folder. Then I resized the copy in that folder. Then I moved it to a new folder. Then, I posted it as an avatar from that second folder.

Somehow, when you resize a picture in a folder and then post from that folder it somehow reads the properties of the original. If you resize the picture and move the resize to a new folder, it will work.

That doesn't explain how George was able to post 4 avatars, because my understanding is that he used the same folder all the way. So I'm still kind of lost.

So, greggl, let's try that. Select a picture and make a copy if it.
Resize the copy, then move it to another folder.
Try to post it as an avatar from that new folder, then tell me what you get.

No luck for me Walt. I made a copy of a pic, resized it, and moved it to a new folder. I tried to upload it from there and it still reads it as the size of the original. I tried a couple of different pics and used different sizes and still no luck.

I just wanted to say, for anyone having trouble with avatars. There are more than one. Right now Vicky is very busy with schedule problems, and I am currently busy with local elections. So, we don't have a lot of time to play with this. But never fear, we will work at it and get it figured out. Just please hang in there and we (Vicky) will get it done.

Tried to upload an avatar again and got a new message. It now says temporary file is unavailible or not writable.

ooooh that's a new one, i can probably fix that one easy. We made a ton of security changes today. Last week we had hackers from Taiwan and today it was Ukraine! So we installed a lot of security protection. Sometimes settings need to be tweaked, its unwritable so hackers can't write to it, but members need to be able to write to it...

I have changed my avatar several times, not sure what that issue is, but just send me your pic by email vicky@vettenationlive.com and I'll be happy to upload it for you?

This might have caused a bug, trying to upload an image, I received this message, tested with images that I've uploaded previously as well.

Hey guys I was needing a little help trying to post my avatar picture. It keeps giving me an error of "Temporary folder can not be found or is not writable" Has any gotten this error message when trying to upload there avatar picture to their profile??

It was nice meeting you too... I know I was a little shy; this was m very first exxxotica and it was an amazing experience.... I look forward to seeing you and other memebers of the VNA next time as well..
