OK who here has netflix? I think I'm gonna downgrade my overpriced cable package because between netflix and amazon prime what more could you possibly need? Netflix is about 8 bucks a month... it's the best value anywhere! I have watched the entire Dexter series which i didn't think would be good from hearing about it, but was shocked how much I enjoyed it! I was always rooting for him! I also watched House of Cards which was brilliant. Now I'm watching House MD in my spare time.. IE at midnight, lol.. that's when i do my tv watching late at night when I put the computer away....

Cable is so overpriced, it's unfortunate that you can't get subscriptions directly through the channel (e.g. HBO, Showtime).

Luther is really good if you haven't seen it, and is on Netflix now.

I'm thinking of cancelling my cable altogether. I only got it cause it's bundled with my Internet, but I'm on my net much more than at my TV. Hell I'm on my PS3 or 360 (or here even!) than my TV.

Yup, I'm calling Comcast in the morning.

yeah but netflix is one year behind unless its their own stuff like Orange is the new black.

Don't even get me started on canadian netflix. they're worst than canadian amazon.

You'd think it was a big deal to import u.s. shows and movies. cable tv has been doing it for decades.

It is true that you have to wait a while to get the shows you want, but just the ability to watch everything without commercials is so worth while! Or to take a night off and watch 6 episodes of your favorite show back to back and be able to pause while you go to the kitchen to get a drink is awesome! It's worth the wait in my opinion. Commercials are the biggest waste of time and an insult to our intelligence.

I do everything possible to avoid commercials, including taping shows to watch later. (And, yes, YouTube, I will always click "skip ad" as soon as possible. And, if I can't, I shut my sound off and do something else until what I want to watch comes on.)

Netflix doesn't seem to have a couple I'd like to see, but does have a lot of other great ones. I have a problem with watching "TV" on my computer, as I like the big screen. But, I'm guessing I need to get over that.

i like a lil bit of binge-watching too. Netflix came out with Orange-Black season 2 all in 1 go, i wondered why at first but then i sat a few hours watching ep after ep.

But who can retain that much info about everything that happened. Seems kind of like a waste if its too much too fast to retain anything.

And only 12 episodes, ugh go back to 24 eps TV universe !

Product placement is coming back they say. if it isn't done right you can spot it right away and i hate that. That's an insult to our intelligence.

if an actor takes a shower on the show we'll spot the shampoo bottle. if they make breakfast we'll spot the waffles and coffee. if they go outside we'll spot the cars and trucks, lawn equipment. hell even the clothing they wear will be sponsored. "where did you get that cute shirt? i got it at the gap or target for 5.99$".

Real subtle.

i hate spotting things when they are obviously put there to sell us something. it's always about money.

i was just watching something last nite with the stars having to do product placement in a pretend tv show they filmed inside that tv show, it was pathetic but funny the way they denounced it

Back in my day ( :walt: ) sure we had shows that were there to promote a product like the Dukes of Hazzard (i'm sure it did something for Dodge) and Knight Rider (Trans am), Transformers, He-man, G.I.JOE (Hasbro) and others at least had something going for them as far as product placement.

The shows revolved around something, a car, a toy, and it was fun to watch, it fueled the imagination. Maybe we'll have shows like that in the future. it was fun.

But hell, next thing we know they'll be advertising boner pills just before a couple goes to bed on the show.

Well... that could be something, Big Bang Theory The Late Night Edition. bowchikabowow...

lol

in its current form, publicity is at very least an excuse for organised fridge raiding or peeing as a group.

Or if you're really quick on the draw a 3 minute quickie.

i don't mind the idea of commercials but i still skip them. it works for us the watchers cuz it's a well defined understanding with the tv producers, they know it's coming, we know it's coming and how long it generally lasts and we can take advantage of it.

With prod placement we'll shift the responsibility of pausing it to go pee to the viewer in charge of the remote.

oh god we'll hate to hold the remote. well there goes society.

i just realized, i can't believe i'm going to miss having organised commercials. they were forced but we can blame the tv stations for it.

Next we'll be blaming the remote guy and playing hot potato with the remote.

oy ve, let's go play outside.

there's plenty of lil appliances that you can plug on your tv to watch youtube/netflix, try a Roku3 , i don't recommend a wdtv live tho, it sucks.

plenty of big tv's now come with smart features that let you watch straight from the tv not the computer.

If you're paying for channels, you shouldn't have to have commercials. That's the whole idea behind "pay channels" such as HBO and Showtime. Yet you pay for ALL the channels, but they air commercials to generate revenue. Given the current age of the internet and tv's that are internet capable, I don't see why channels don't just offer the channel directly to the viewer for a monthly fee.

Cable providers run monopolies and are awful to deal with. I wish we could cut them out.

Really? I'll have to check that one out, never heard of it but I do like scifi's! I loved Heroes, was totally into that one, except it got a little silly at the end... I also liked Fringe, anyone see that one?

Fire Fly is great it is a western in space. The guy from Castle stars in it. Sad it only lasted 1 season. so don't forget to watch the movie it wraps up and gives it an ending. The movie is Serenity. Fringe I started and keep saying I'm going to finish it one day.

We had Netflix, but the Canadian end sucks, I phoned and asked about some shows I wanted to watch. They asked where I lived and I told them Alberta, she had no idea where that was so I told her Canada. The shows I wanted wern't shown in Canada, even a lot of Disney movies. I'm not a big TV watcher and never have watched a series of anything, but the odd movie I'll watch. Believe it or not I have ADHD and a very short attention span, mindless humor I can watch, something I need to pay attention too, not so much!

Nothing I like better than making a big batch of popcorn and sitting back in our comfy living room furniture and watching a good movie really loud on our big screen. It's way better than going out, having some annoying kid kicking the back of your seat, or some ass talking on the phone during the movie... yep way better to watch movies at home where you can run to the fridge for snacks, have a foot massage by the guy you love and your dog on your lap! movies at home 10 - movies at theater 5. Unless it's IMAX.

See now I'm still a guy who loves going to the movies. I love the big screen, the big sound and the experience...probably because we don't go out that much.

We never seem to have any bad experiences at the movies...maybe Canadian crowds are just too damn polite. I hardly ever hear a cellphone go off and when it happens the person quickly escorts themselves out of the theatre.

On a side note, I just watched Team America- World Police last night on Netflix...way too damn funny :)

I still enjoy going to movies over watching them on TV. Of course, I don't have Rokkerr to rub my feet and bring me popcorn, either. Except TCM, which doesn't have commercials. But most of their movies are old ones - 30's, 40's, etc. Every once in awhile I'll see an oldie I like. Wuthering Heights, for example. Always liked that one.

Best thing about movies is, being 100 and retired, I can go to the first movie of the day, when there's only myself and 3 other old coots in there.
