First off, i'm not a computer techie. I've been noticing the last couple weeks that the members' areas (where you wind up at after you've logged in) have been loading slower and slower as the day progresses. I normally log in thru Vicky's site even though i currently am a member of Carmen Valentina, just a comfort thing i guess. As it gets later in the day, particularly 4 or 5pm est, when i go to Any VNA site, the circular loading icon on my page tab will keep going and going for up to 10 minutes and the page takes a good 20 seconds to fill completely in.
I'm using Firefox because my computer and operating system work MUCH better than they did using IE. Now, the longer the page site takes to load, the longer it takes before i can look at an Archived show...and even the Archive page loads slowly and a Archive show just buffers and buffers. It's a domino type effect. I'm also noticing that the above mentioned problem is causing trouble during the evening cam shows...more lagging and sound break-up. Watching a picture set on Slideshow in the evening is difficult too.
I'd like to also add that i use DSL which i know isn't the greatest but i've ran speed tests and am about where i should be. I'm able to navigate all over the web just fine. I've Always emptied my browsers cache when it needed it too. (i done all the maintenance, rebooting, disk checking etc.)
I ONLY bring these problems up because i've heard others speak of problems (during the last few days)...and i mean that they've been having similar problems for the last couple of weeks.
But I must STRESS here. These problems ALL SEEM TO BE TIME RELATED...at least, that what i'm experiencing.
So, i want to thank everyone in advance for any helpful input. I'm perplexed by the situation and thought that maybe i wasn't alone AND i wanted Vicky and Rokkerr to better understand these problems as i see them. This is the "Serious" caseyT...yes, it Does exist. Thank you All!

The "serious" CaseyT?? Awww, come on. You've been drinking, haven't you? :rotffl: :nanah:

Actually, I've been having troubles, too, but I'm not sure it's just the VNA. I started running scans yesterday, hoping to help things. I ran a defrag last night (34% fragmented,) but it hung up at 95% complete and wouldn't finish. So I stopped it and will try again tonite.

I do have a rogue ad that is popping up all over. It's right above this input box right now. ("Ad by Quicksharer," Chrome Browser.) So, I'm sure that's causing some grief. I'm going to do a few more things before I focus in on the VNA. I haven't downloaded anything recently, so maybe I'll try a couple archives, too.

i've seen that happen too recently. i have access to 2 networks and downloading from 1 goes much faster than the other. which leads me to beleave it could just be an internet rerouting/backbone problem.

Just a shot in the dark, could be one of Webair's switches failing or some more of that DDOS attacks they've had in the past. just wondering.

i have an idea Casey, reset your modem&router to clear the cobwebs first. Give them a minute or 2 to get up and running.

Then try clearing your DNS cache. On Windows: open a command line as admin (winmenu, type cmd, right click when it shows up on the menu, launch as admin).

On the dos window title you should see the word Administrator.
now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.

This will flush your dns cache and rebuild it withing a few minutes from from your isp.

Thank you HT for the suggestions. I brought up my Command Prompt and i simply typed in ipconfig/flushdns as you said and it said i had successfully flushed my dns. So we shall see. The Command Prompt kind of makes me nervous messing with but you gave me the guts to do it, haha. Like i said earlier, the page loading problem seems to get bad in the evenings lately. I really, really want to thank you for posting those possible answers for the problems. I sincerely appreciate your help and i hope you don't mind if i ask you any questions i may have in the future. :mrcool:
Now to Walt...I think i remember running into that Quicksharer thingy but i don't remember how i fixed it but i did. I always keep malwarebytes anti-malware and SuperAntispyware handy (free editions) to go after those PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). I see where you can click internet options then click on advanced, then go down to Internet Explorer Settings and click on Reset...oh boy, silly me, you said you were using Chrome. Anyway it may even be in your Programs/install/uninstall. It's pretty easy to get rid of...good luck with you defagging, i mean defragging. :ohthedrama:

Good Casey and those anti-malwares do the job fine.

So in the evenings it's worst ? that should explain it, most internet congestion occurs in the evening like when people are at home and surfing and downloading po... i mean watching youtube/netflix/amazon/etc. So i'm thinking a lot of folks around where you live are home and using the shared internet.

it's probably just network congestion. Nothing much we can do at home about it, unless you can get a better isp, like one that offers fiber optics. it's a bit more expensive but boy it goes much faster.

i get pings of 14 to 30ms on cable and 2 to 4ms on fiber. And just a fact, when i download on fiber from the vna sites, i usualy get my full speed, while on cable i get congestion. sometimes its so bad i barely get 300kb/s, tho sometimes on fiber that happens too which leads me to believe its not the internet but webair themselves.

it's not easy figuring out what is the cause, could be one of them DDOS attacks they've had before, could be a server or a switch at the center that is failing. Who knows. but i do know its worst in the middle of the night, seems a lot of folks like to dl from them.

anyhoo, we're just going to have to grin and bare it for a bit.

oh and about defragging, if you're on HDD not SSD try http://www.mydefrag.com/ , i set the monthly defrag to run on the 1st. it's an hdd so really there isn't much we can do about speeds. try bootracer aswell to tell you how fast it boots before and after a defrag just to see if its worth it.

if you're on an SSD then don't do it. i know its tempting to see all them files as one but it's really just a waste of programming cycle for each cell. They each have a finite number of cycles and we don't really see any benefit since its already so fast.

my speed tip, if you want a faster computer get more ram and an SSD. my boot times went from 20-40 seconds down to 8 or 9 seconds.

Again HT .. Thank You! And thx for the Pointers. I emptied that dns cache and apparently something worked because i have 6 tabs open as i experiment, with 2 to Vicky's site, 1 on a camshow, 1 on the archives, 1 for my homepage and of course 1 here on the forum. They are all loading up properly, so unless it's just a coincidence, your suggestions seem to be just what the doctor ordered. And, there's no doubt i'll be referring back to these posts and using your latest suggestions. GREAT JOB !!! :theman: :theman: :theman: :goodpost:

There was a big problem with some ATT routes/backbone being down for a while too, when that is the case there is nothing webair can do about it, it just takes longer to get to the server because all the traffic is being rerouted. But there is a way to know if tht is the case. Remember the link i gave you guys before? Hold on, I'm gonna sticky post that to the top of the tech forum here... so if you have any serious issues / downloading / slow loading issues you can always run this NET DEBUG test and it will automatically open a ticket to we will research it. Don't be afraid to use it, that's why we have it!

Casey, I have the paid Malwarebytes, and that didn't find it. I had no internet all day yesterday, so I had time to run scans and do some clean-up. Whatever happened, the ads are not there today.
