National Anthem followed by a flyover by The U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds, followed by a Bald Eagle with a Go-Pro strapped to it's back. Yeah, that's natural, lol.

No argument here. Let the people race, you idiots. NASCAR thinks that running a race means throw a lot of yellow flags out there so we can all park on pit road.

Prayers for Ryan Newman Oh my God that was a horrible crash!!

yes, that was scary. All I could see while they were trying to rescue hum was Dale Earnhardt. Sure glad to hear that he'll be alright.

Yeah I was worried because of what had happened to Dale Earnhardt.
What makes you smile?
I know you’re listening.

What happened to you was such a tragedy.

I believe I found the answer.

According to reports, Ryan was released from the hospital today. Really glad to see that. It was a scary crash to watch live and the follow up made it mores so. (Though, props to Fox for not getting close to the extraction efforts in what could have been a morbid time.)
As an Engineer, the safety initiatives that were largely started by Jackie Stewart in the 70s have become extremely impressive. Safety efforts have come so far in the past few decades of motor racing that it has become difficult to tell which wrecks are bad until you see how the rescue crews react. Any more, the initial crash/impact are not problems, because that is what the cars have been designed to handle. It is the secondary impacts, especially when the car is in an awkward position like Ryan was on Monday or Anthoine Hubert was last year when he was killed, that are the dangerous ones because you can't design the driver compartment to protect from all crashes from all angles. Still, there are so many wrecks that would have been horrible in years past and guys just walk away today. As a race fan, I am really impressed by how far we've come.

And not just in motor racing. Volvo's target for this year is not a single death WORLDWIDE in a Volvo car!!

Great race yesterday at Darlington. Couple crashes, couple surprises, Kevin Harvick took the flag. The lack of fans didn't bother me at all. I have no doubt that they undertook all the necessary precautions. Only exception was the spotters. They usually stand on top of the grandstands along the front straightaway. But, since the stands were empty, they ll got to sit in the top row of seats. The announcer noted that, when the race started, they were all separated. But by the time they discussed this (over halfway thru the race) They were all buddied up together, and I didn't see any masks. I don't know.
I like Kevin Harvick. Kevin was brought up to Winston Cup the week after Dale Earnhardt was killed to drive the #3. They changed toe number to #29 and changed the paint from Earnhardt's black to White, with the same styling as the number 3. He won his 3rd race and the crowd went wild. I did, too, in my living room, lol. He beat out Jeff Gordon by 0.006 seconds. That's about a hairs width. For the rest of the year, the announcers went silent on the third lap of every race, as did the fans. The fans all also held up 3 fingers for the duration of the lap. It was quite emotional.
