OK - here we go. By the way I wasn't away on a bender honest! But I did get loads more "research" done whilst I was away.
Maggie, I know you like/love vodka - so here is a distillery to challenge Titos!
There is a village in Finland called Koskenkorva that has a distillery. As their blurb says "In the village of Koskenkorva life isn't complicated. we have good barley, pure water and dedicated local farmers. We work with Nature's best ingredients to create a smooth, honest vodka. It's as simple as that."
What a mission statement (and I hate those bloody things - if someone has to tell you what they are about, they are rubbish at what they do!)!!
I have tried their original, lemon lime & yarrow and blueberry juniper.
They are great - really smooth and the last two do taste citrusy & blueberry-y as promised . They are highly recommended!
And Maggie, Do you feel lucky? Do you like blueberries? - Go ahead make my day and let me know!!

OK here's the thing - am I the only committed drinker here?
No posts since last vodka one? Come on guys.
Another vodka here which tastes good (is gluten free Maggie) and has the most cool bottle ever.
Outer Space Vodka - made from Iowa Corn!
Trying hard to get pic for you but won't download as pic. Google Images all round.
Filtered through meteorite and tastes pretty clean.
If you want something cool on your booze shelf go for this - willing to bet you Maggie that you will find this acceptable as Titos! Challenge accepted? Let me know!
And Missy, you still haven't told me if you like blueberries!!!

So here goes - start on Belgian beers. Those of you that have been to Belgium (remember the dinner party gag - name 5 famous Belgians - Poirot doesn't count cos he's fictional) will know that they do three things really well - and they're all consumable - frites (chips), chocolate and beer!
Aside from eating their chips with mayonnaise (which actually works) they are mad with their beers - they are all pretty strong (remember Delirium Tremens etc).
Well, Kwak is no exception. It is 8.4% and comes from the Bosteels brewery. It should really be called Pauwel Kwak - after the 18thC innkeeper that gave it its name and the funky round bottomed (round bottoms are my favourite) glass that you should have it it - see pic!It tastes of caramel, Christmas pudding with a slightly burnt bread-pudding (ask your British friends) after taste.
The best bit is trying to drink it from the glass - ha ha. The round bowl at the bottom is fine until you get the level down to it. Then, as you tilt the glass to drink, air gets into the bowl and pushes the beer out quicker than you anticipate - cue beer all down chin and shirt if you are not careful (especially after 3rd or 4th). Also the more glasses you have the more difficult it is to get the glass back into the wooden rack.
But it does taste great!

Belgians also seem to like fruit beers (again see Delirium Red and its Cherry flavour.

Satan Red beer (they also do Black and Gold), Satan Red is a ruby red beer from De Block Brewery - lovely re colour, 8% and great fruity taste - to me sort of raspberry/strawberry!

Go for it chaps

Drinking a red wine called Apothic Red 2014, and it's from California. It's good but I've had better. It's kinda dry.
I'm also drinking a Polish vodka called Luksusowa and I don't really like this one either... Lol. They last Polish vodka I had was amazing, it's called Sobieski.
Show me your kitties. >:D

Absolutely true Maggie - weaker than things like Kwak, and not as tasty. Mind its a bit like comparing something mass-produced in bulk and something hand-crafted.
Belgian beers are in with me at the moment - going to explore the ones made by the monks next!
I will give you an update when I regain consciousness.

My favoritr beer is Michelob Ultra, I even like their Facebook & Instagram, I recently saw that the have a flavored brew Lime Cactus. I was in luck my local distrdistributor sells it in 24 pack bottles (I'm cool with cans) Im not usually a fan of flavored beer but this taste pretty balanced.

Quiet recently, I know.
Still drinking that lovely Koskenkorva vodka!
I will be back on the Belgians soon!
Quick bit of advice Free - Major breweries are fine, but you MUST try your local craft/micro brewery.
I promise you you won't be disappointed. When I have visited the US I have been ready to give the snobbish Brit "You Yanks can't make beer", but each time I have found some wonderful local brewery that has blown that out of the water!

I haven't had any booze for 3 weeks, despite currently working in a craft beer store. I'm committing myself to staying sober through the month of October. No smoking cannabis either, which is really more my thing since I don't really drink much to begin with.
