I've seen small versions of this practiced by girls who will put a small "stick-on" in order to create a negative image after being exposed to the sun, but this new level of suntanning/sunburning is way over that line. Hopefully this practice is as short lived as Pogs. Can anyone say "skin cancer"?

Nothing surprises me anymore. Today's younger generation is getting stupider by the minute. One dope does it and everyone says,"Ooohhh, cool. I'm gonna do that." Stupid begets stupid.

And what happened to Kim? She used to be a computer expert. So now she's doing silly news stories?

Sunburn is bad enough but to have people doing that now. Seriously? Sunburn isn't a cool thing to have. *coming from the very pale vampire looking blonde* XD

Kim is still a computer expert, she's awesome by the way.. it's just one of her entertaining, "people are stupid" pieces from her site...

What people don't seem to realize is that by laying out in the sun, you are actually cooking your skin, your body. Sunlight contains Ultra Violet (UV) rays that actually cook your skin Let it go long enough, it permanently damages your skin.

Like with many things, people who have decided they want a tan won't listen to you. They get a mindset and won't listen to anyone. There is nothing wrong with getting a mild, or light tan. but if someone is noticeably getting darker, they are doing damage. When they get older, their skin will be like leather.

If you have a friend who wants to "tan up," copy and paste this article into a word document. Print it out and give it to them. Then tell them, "Take this. Take this home and read it. READ IT! And then give up this stupid idea of getting a tan."

Yes, Kim is awesome. She provided a lot of help in my earlier computing days. Not personally, I mean via her site and the knowledge she provided. I guess I should go back there and get updated.

You should also read this
the sun is actually good for you, one of the problems of our time, is we are inside so much, at home, in office, in car, we don't get the valuable vitamin D that is one of the strongest anti oxidants there is. It prevents and treats cancers and other diseases. As long as you don't burn.
it's really quite fascinating and a good read.

That's true, too. I wasn't saying never go outside, lol. The sun really is good for you. It's the burning that's bad. Just use common sense, people. A light tan, even one to make a "sun tat" probably isn't bad. It's getting so red that you burn that's bad.

All I want to do is sleep so I really don't get much sun. And I can't even get a tan unless my skin burns first. I have all the pale nationalities. X/

I take vitamin d supplements in the winter because of the shithole weather we get here haha but it's true it's so important...I'm a total sun kinda gal though I'm just happier in the sun.

But these people are knobheads.
Today is the perfect day to take a deep breath and go for it.

Wow, things people do to look sexy. I put on so much sun block, I use 30. I absolutely love being outside summer and winter, feels so good, but always be careful.

One of the problems about that, is the sunblock is pure chemicals and they are absorbed into your skin. The sunblock itself is toxic. I'm not kidding... so you do something to protect yourself, and you could be hurting yourself more than helping, because not only is it toxic, but it blocks the Vitamin D from being absorbed, which is the one good thing about being in the sun. It's much better to just cover up when you think you have had enough. I never use sunblock, never have in my life. I just put a shirt on when I need to and I always always wear a cap.

Yeah. The shirt thing is important, especially at the beach. I was younger and didn't put one on OR enough sunscreen and I ended up with huge nasty blisters all over my back and shoulders... They were so bad I was even hallucinating.

I'm so pale and I want to tan but I don't think it's worth it. And I'll NEVER tan in a tanning bed. That kinda thing scares me.

I learned the hard way when Kwon and I went snorkeling for the first time at Koh Tao. After 2 hour of snorkeling my back look like a cooked lobster even with a 30 sunblock on my back.....lol

Oh. That sucks. Dx Yeah. I'll learn never to not wear sunscreen when I'm in the ocean since my experience...and if I do, it would have to be reapplied constantly. Or just wear a T-shirt like Vicky said...but I hate the feeling of wet clothes sticking to my body. xD

Most of you would be aware that Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer or melanoma in the world. The Anti-Cancer Council tells people here to not go out in the sun between 10am & 3pm when the hottest UV (ultra-violet) Rays register at Level 10 or above. This is all year round, BTW! I try to go out in the sun for at least 10 minutes per day either early morning or late afternoon to get my Vitamin D Fill daily. They recommend that fair-skinned people here wear a shirt, sunscreen & hat when outside in the sunshine. The ACC had an advertising campaign called "Slip, Slop, Slap" to promote their message.

Oh my gosh, that's crazy! I thankfully live in the woods so if I did spend all day outside, it's not so bad here.
