WalterB wrote:Yeah, I love "fans" who know nothing about their team. I watch a program called "Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders." It shows every year and tracks each years candidates for the team. They start with the first day of tryouts, when maybe 400 candidates show up and goes for about 10 - 12 episodes until the final team is selected and they strut out onto the field for their first show.

One of the first things they go thru, after the field has been whittled to 50 or 60, is to ask the ladies about the team. There's always one or two that know nothing about the team. One didn't even know the coaches name. How can you try out for something you know nothing about? "Don't mind me. I just sleep here."

you dirty old man ,watching the cheerleaders, probably yelling at tv "KICK HIGHER" ha
cuz i watch that program too and do that myself ,i'm a dirty young man :lmao:

i reckon weeeis goanna win dis year

My Dad has been a St Louis fan all of his life...he even had an affiliation with them when he played in the minors. Nothing would make me happier than to see the Cubbies take it to the Cards. All he does it talk about them. GGrrrrrr!!

Go Jays!!! (Yea I still believe)

Halloween just isn't the same without the Orange and Black :icon_sad: ...

The NLDS -

The Cardinals are the best team and they once again proved it by soundly beating the Cubs in game one, 4-0. John Lackey outpitched Jon Lester. He was a master on the mound keeping them hitless for the first five innings. If the Cubs go back to Wrigley trailing 0-2, this series is pretty much over. The Cards' game 2 starter Jaime Garcia, although not as good as the injured Carlos Martinez, is still better than Kyle Hendricks, the Cubs' game 2 starter. Jake Arrieta and Michael Wacha square off in game 3. This could be a clincher for the Redbirds.

It's good to see Clayton Kershaw fail and lose once again in the playoffs, losing to the Mets, 3-1. Kershaw is 1-6 for his post season career with 5 straight losses. If the Dodgers lose tonight with Zack Greinke, it's pretty much over. Brett Anderson is the game 3 starter. Who? Personally, I would have kept Mike Bolsinger on the NLDS roster and taken Pedro Baez off. The Dodgers bullpen especially middle relief to get to Kenley Jansen is really bad. Just like it was last year.

Also another thorn in the side of the LAD, Don Mattingly is a pretty bad manager when it comes to managing the pitching staff. I'm not talking about Kershaw and Greinke (they don't need to be managed a lot because they go out and pitch 7, 8 or 9 innings of solid work on a consistent level.) I'm talking about with the other pitchers on the staff. Thank God, he has Rick Honeycutt as his pitching coach. Sometimes Mattingly is lost out there and clueless. An example, in 2013 he was using Brandon League as his closer and they went into last place during April, May and June. Then Don Mattingly figured it out on how to use Kenley Jansen properly. That and the fight. Yes, the fight with the Diamondbacks woke the Dodgers up. They went into first place July 22 and never lost possession of it. In 2014, another example, Mattingly made the mistake of using Chris Perez way too much. Perez came one game away from getting a $500 K incentive bonus if he appeared in 50 games. He pitched in only 49 games and the Dodgers withheld the bonus. The direct orders came from Stan Kasten, the Dodgers CEO, to not pitch Perez the last week of the 2014 season. The ex-SFG closer, Brian Wilson was reliable just a bit "touched" in the head. (Too much "talking to himself" in the third person. Hehe.) Anyway, the Dodger skipper would never have thought of using him in the 6th or 7th innings. Down the stretch in 2014 last year, Mattingly should also have used Dan Haren more. Maybe even pitched him at some point in game 4 of the NLDS against the Cardinals. Especially if the Dodgers held a lead, like they did. Yes, that's the clincher that Clayton Kershaw lost. Lastly, the Dodgers also treat their employees like dirt, i.e., Ted Lilly, the ex-Los Angeles Dodger pitcher. He was rehabbing, doing well, and they outright released him. He subsequently retired. Might I also mention Josh Beckett because he's still on the payroll because of injury and for insurance purposes. But that's another story for a different day.

Now, if the Dodgers fail again in the first round of the NLDS, the Guggenheim Partners will probably fire Don Mattingly. They have no patience for failure especially with all that talent and a $300 + million dollar annual payroll. They proved it last year by firing Ned Colletti as the GM - the second hold over from the Frank McCourt era. Mattingly is the first hold over and he was inherited from Joe Torre's coaching staff (also the previous ownership of Frank McCourt.) Actually they didn't fire Colletti they made him the Senior Advisor to Andrew Friedman, the Club President. Still it's a demotion. By the way, the Dodgers GM is Farhan Zaidi. It's a figurehead role because Andrew Friedman runs the Guggenheim Partners' pursestrings.

About Jake Arietta ... sorry Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw. He's the 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner.

The Orange and Black will be back in 2016. To get their fourth ring in seven. :D

I don't really know about the teams. I do know I hate StL as well, mainly because they beat the Tigers a few years ago. That one was a replay of the '68 (I think) World Series, where Detroit beat StL in game 7. But in the more recent game, StL was strong, and/or Detroit didn't even show up. It was either 4-1 or 4-0. But the Tigers sent their 3rd level farm team - which was apparently the Madison Heights High School team. :lmao:

Anyway what I really noticed was the strike calling. They put that little window up there that shows where the ball really crossed the plate. Now, I don't know how accurate that is, but I have to believe that it is pretty accurate. And what I noticed was that dang near 50% of the umps calls were wrong. Hell one guy got called out on strikes and not one of the balls was shown in the strike zone. 6 pitches, I think, and not one even touched the box. And he was called out. To me, that is serious. Football has gone to instant replay. Is it time for baseball to go to electronic strike calling?

What do you think? Next game, keep an eye on that box. If they do like tennis, even touching the box would be in. And I'm sure the Umps union would fight to the death over electronic calling. But 50% wrong? Where else is 50% wrong allowed?

It looks like the Cubs survive another day and will have their split ... they are up 6-1 through three innings. It's early though. Lance Lynn is now in for the Cardinals. Kyle Hendricks is pitching good giving up one run through 3 innings, with four strikeouts.
