I don't really follow baseball anymore, altho I would get interested if the Tigers were anywhere in view (last in their division this year.)
Was living in Detroit in '68 when they won the Series from the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis. I mean that town went absolutely nuts. My friends and I headed downtown around 2 PM or so. We eventually got separated, but this was a party like no other. No torching, no burning, no cars overturned, no destruction, what the hell is wrong with people today? It was nothing but raucous yelling, laughing, hugging, just one great party. The police stayed away and just let it happen. No businesses torched, no windows broken, a time to remember. I have no idea how many women I kissed, lol.
The streets were totally clogged. I remember climbing up on top of a city bus and throwing a few beers to others (I was carrying a 6-pack, lol.) A fire truck tried to get thru town due to a small fire somewhere, but you couldn't even tell it was a fire truck, there were so many people up on it. I remember one guy carrying a box of Kotex would graciously wash the windshields of any carful of women. He'd pour beer over the windshield, then clean it with the Kotex. Since they were stuck in traffic, they certainly weren't going anywhere.
Downtown Detroit actually ran out of beer around 8 PM. I heard that people were driving up to Flint and Grand Rapids to fill up their cars and bring it back. Man, that was one party to remember. I think I finally headed home around 3 AM or so.
In 2006, I started watching the series because the Tigers were in. After the first game started, I suddenly realized, this was a remake of the '68 Series, the Tigers vs the Cards. Suddenly I had high hopes. I should have just stayed home, as the Tigers did. They lost, 1 game to 4. St. Louis walked over them, thus avenging their '68 loss.

I have been a huge baseball fan all of my life. I got the passion from my father who was a minor league catcher for many years.
Some people don't get baseball...its too slow...not enough action...I don't understand it. The beauty of baseball is the history, the anticipation between pitches building to an amazing crescendo...thats baseball :)
And since I'm the Canadian ball fan that I am all I can say at this time is "Go Jays!!"

Born and raised Texas Rangers fan so GO RANGERS! #nevereverquit After all, it's been a magical season for the Rangers, but I figure the Blue Jays will be a tough series.

Hilarious, Dan. Thanks. I don't always agree with the things he talks about, but pretty much all of it is pretty hilarious. Now, excuse me. I'm going out to play in the park and go home and be safe, lol

Well I hate to alienate at least one of my VNA Homies, but I'm rooting for the Cubbies over the Pirates tonight. (but if the Pirates take it I'll be good with that too)
Sorry Free

I love baseball too and I am Canadian, but just can't go for the Jays, I'm a Tigers fan first and I do love the Dodgers. So go LA, I just hope their pitching doesn't turn into the nightmare as it did last year. I do get a kick out of most Canadians their big Jays fans this year, but couldn't name a player or haven't watched a game, but their big fans!!

Yeah, I love "fans" who know nothing about their team. I watch a program called "Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders." It shows every year and tracks each years candidates for the team. They start with the first day of tryouts, when maybe 400 candidates show up and goes for about 10 - 12 episodes until the final team is selected and they strut out onto the field for their first show.
One of the first things they go thru, after the field has been whittled to 50 or 60, is to ask the ladies about the team. There's always one or two that know nothing about the team. One didn't even know the coaches name. How can you try out for something you know nothing about? "Don't mind me. I just sleep here."
