I have never done a back-up (not a good idea,) but there is a way to restore your backup files. If the other hard drive is connected to your computer, you should be able to see everything. If not, and you're not to aware of that stuff, wait til he gets home. Maybe he got tired before he got that part done. Have him fix it tonight (then show him your appreciation, lol.)
And, like I've said, once all is restored, run your maintenance software on a regular schedule. It's much easier to do that than to try to do it after everything is gummed up.
