Gord Downie, the lead singer for the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, has terminal brain cancer.

Downie was diagnosed in December and "since then, obviously, he's endured a lot of difficult times," the band said on its website Tuesday morning.
For 30 years, Tragically Hip has been one of Canada's most successful acts, racking up 14 Juno awards and nine No. 1s. And the 52-year-old Downie is one of its most charismatic singers.
The band said it's planning a summer tour -- its way of dealing with the news.
"This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us," the post said.
"What we in The Hip receive, each time we play together, is a connection; with each other; with music and it's magic; and during the shows, a special connection with all of you, our incredible fans.
"So, we're going to dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet."

So sad.

I heard that, it's so sad, if they come to Grande Prairie we'll go, that's only a 5-6 hour drive

Only 53. I fucking hate cancer. When the fuck is the world going to wake up and stop polluting the planet with pesticides, herbicides, plastics and toxins? Every oncologist you speak to will tell you that 80% of all cancers are environmental, NOT naturally occurriing. Even David's father's leukemia specialist told him that a few months ago. It's our environment that is making us all sick! All for corporate greed.

Oh Vicky. It is not only our environment but the preservatives used in canned goods. We are killing our kids with all this and fast foods too. Who knows what is put into that food! But alas, we must go on living and hoping someone gets a clue. I don't think that will happen soon. Too much greed. There are supposed to be cures for some cancers but guess who doesn't want that to happen? Sorry if I got carried away. I just had to agree with you Vicky.

Gord got a ton of airplay and tributes up here in Canada over the last few days. I've never been a fan of The Hip's music, but I've always been a fan of good people doing good things for the community, and thats what Gord was, a great guy who was loved by his community. He will be sorely missed.
