Well, let's start this off by saying, do you really believe in Santa? Of course, you do. Well, let me fix that right now. And don't let the kids look. :lmao:

Scientific Evidence of Santa Claus

1) No known species of reindeer can fly. However there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not completely rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.

2) There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. However, since Santa doesn’t appear to handle most Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total – 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. At an average rate of 3.5 children per household (according to the census bureau), that makes 91.8 million homes. We’ll presume that there is at least one good child in each.

3) Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 822.6 visits per second. In other words, for each Christian household with good children Santa has 1/1000th of a second to:

a) park, b) hop out of the sleigh, c) jump down the chimney, d) fill the stockings, e) distribute the remaining presents under the tree, f) eat whatever snacks have been left, g) get back up the chimney, h) get back into the sleigh, and i) move on to the next house.

Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course is false but for the purpose of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75.5 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours. This means that Santa’s sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, or 3000 times the speed of sound. For purposes of comparison, the fastest man made vehicle ever invented, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second. A conventional reindeer can only run 15 miles per hour, tops.

4) The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized Lego set (two pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is already overweight and stuffed by the end of the night with milk and cookies from 91.8 million homes. On land a conventional team of reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that “flying reindeer” can pull ten times that amount, Santa needs 214,200 reindeer to do the job. This increases the payload – not even counting the weight of the sleigh itself–to 353,430 tons. Again, for purposes of comparison, this is four times the weight of the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II.

5) 353,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance, which will heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as a spacecraft re-entering the earth’s atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer will each absorb 14.3 quintillion (14,300,000,000,000,000,000) joules of energy per second, instantaneously bursting into flames, creating deafening sonic booms in their wake, and exposing the reindeer following them to the same forces. The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second. Meanwhile, Santa will be subjected to acceleration forces over 17,500 times greater than gravity. A 250 pound Santa will be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.

The only sound conclusion from the above is, if Santa ever did deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he’s dead now.

Merry Christmas, y'all. :yeahbaby: :rotffl:

So, lest we all forget what Christmas is all about. Well, yes. It is, in actuality, a Christian celebration of the birth of Christ. But beyond that, it is a celebration of love, of caring and of giving. It is a time to set aside our differences, our hates, our angers. It it is a time to remember that we are all people, we are all human. We all suffer the same aches, the same pain, the same desire to live a good life.

And, because of that, Santa Claus lives. He lives in the hearts of those who dream, who realize, in their hearts, that love is bigger than all of us. And my wish for you is that you have the happiest and warmest of holiday seasons. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to you all.

DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

VIRGINIA O’HANLON.
115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Thanks Walt I love that story, and yes I sure do believe in Santa and the miracles of Christmas. I heard someone say we go threw 3 stages about Santa:

1 We believe in Santa,
2 We question Santa,
3 We are Santa!

I believe that's true. I did my annual Santa's Anonymous toy delivery last Sunday with 2 of my nieces. I've only missed once since I was 16, some of you know why. Feels so good to see the happiness on peoples faces when they don't have much. There's always one that brings me to tears, no exception this year. We went to a place that was horrible looking. When she opened the door and saw us with the bags of gifts she started to cry that we saved her Christmas. She was maybe 25 with 4 kids between 7 and 2, so 4 bags of gifts, she hugged me as her kids danced around, her 5 year old said, "Mom I told you Santa would be here!" So no one can tell me there's no Santa, he's in all of us! :bigsmiley:

A truly fantastic story from Julie and thanks once again to Walt for his annual posting of Virginia's letter. I was part of the Santa's Anonymous story this Christmas as well. It reminds me every year to be thankful for what we have and to be grateful and humble. I had a lot of friends lose their jobs this year in tough economic times. Most of us are only a paycheck or two away from needing assistance too.

Merry Christmas to All of our friends that we have met through the VNA. You are all special people.

Well, it's that time of year again. I was out this morning delivering a few early gifts. As I drove down my home street, I passed a young girl walking along with her purse and a couple rolls of gift wrap. It made me pause, and again reflect on the meaning of Christmas. There seems to be so much hate and anger in the world. And, here was this young girl walking somewhere to wrap gifts for someone. The spirit of giving lives. And, as I've said before, it lives in all of us.

If you believe that the news reflects the state of the world, I think you are wrong. I truly believe that there is much more love and caring in the world than there is hate and anger. Yes there are pockets of problems, from the angry family to entire countries. But, if you stop and think about it, it is the various governments that are mad and are fighting, not the people. The people want a good and decent life. And that's what I wish for everyone.

We all realize the love and camaraderie that we feel for others, we all feel that. I would give anything if we could all just get along.

I wish you and yours the happiest and warmest Christmas you could have. I pray that your loved ones are happy and doing well. I know that there are those that have whatever difficulties to deal with/overcome. May you all have someone, somewhere, who loves you. And may you also have someone that you love.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
to you, to yours, and to all the world!
I can resist everything except temptation.
