I would expect the guy to be respectful. One thing I've learned is "there's no accounting for taste." Some have none. Yep! He has the right to do whatever he wants. But he must realize that, if you're going to do something like this? You'd better expect some rather serious flack.

I will not say "Merry Xmas," as many do. (Is it too hard to type out Christmas, folks?) But I have come around for "Happy Holidays," for this reason:

All my life, I've said "Merry Christmas, Happy New Year." The two holidays are so close together as to be one holiday period. Many larger companies shut down for the entire period from about Christmas eve thru New Years day, so as to accommodate both holidays.

So I have come to feel that "Happy Holidays" is an appropriate greeting. Also, in today's world, a number of people are not Christians, but are adherents of other religions that do not celebrate the birth of Christ. Some of those celebrate Christmas as a season of love and giving, and the spirit of love and giving is not limited to just one religion. Our own Sara Jay does not celebrate Christmas. And she will politely let folks know, which is certainly fine by me.

So, while I will still say "Merry Christmas," I am a little careful with it. and it no longer bothers me when folks say Happy Holidays.

Good for you, Walt! Almost every major world religion celebrates at least one holiday around the winter solstice. Happy holidays is respectful of everyone's holidays, not just Christians. I will say Merry Christmas all day on December 25th, but the rest of the season I will usually say happy holidays because it is more inclusive of everyone everywhere.

Exactly, Davest. On Christmas day, it's "Merry Christmas." But, leading up to it? "Happy Holidays" is fine by me. IMHO, lol.
