Getting Sick at Conventions

So Sunny canceled her show because she is really sick after the convention. My poor Dave is sick as a dog and getting worse. Poor baby has gone to the doctor right now and he has to fly back to California tomorrow morning. Walt was sick when he left. Kimber is sick. Dommy is sick. I know there are a bunch more who told me they are sick just can't think of it right now.
Unbelievable isn't it? This happens every single year.

It also happens after the Exxxoticas, but it seems more extreme after AEE? I don't it get though. If you take good care of yourself, eat and drink healthy, go to bed at a decent time and if girls don't exchange fluids with every other girl they run into or do drugs, then they should be fine, right? I think you can prevent it from happening, but everyone justs accepts they'll be going home with the AVN flu.

In my case, the weather was cold and rainy, I came from a warm, dry climate and I didn't bundle up enough outside, including wearing my hat. I guess it's odds on I would have caught something anyway, tho, with all the hugging and kissing going on. There was some antiseptic hand sanitizer there (thanks to whoever brought that) which I used, but it pretty much stayed behind the booth, and one bottle certainly wouldn't have saved the public, lol.

But the weather was miserable, and so was I. I found some Alka-Seltzer Sinus/Cough/Cold gel caps that seemed to knock the symptoms down pretty good, but I'm still coughing and eating throat lozenges like M&M's.

Sorry to hear Dave caught it. I know he was seriously trying to avoid that. He doesn't think I gave it to him, does he? Should I watch out my front door for an "enforcer" to show up?

I haven't even gone to pick up Fred yet. Didn't want to give it to anyone else (my sister or her granddaughter.)

They weather over there wasnt all that great as we all know by now, when I arrived Friday it was yucky. I must say Ive never used so much hand sanitize in my life!



I washed my hands a pretty good bit too, at my job I do the same & wear gloves however earlier on Saturday the smoke inside Hard Rock got to me to the point I actually had to get some allergy medicine thankful 1 pill cleared that all up, even on the plane(s) you would feel a cold draft next time Im bring my damn blanket.

May be a thing at conventions. I went down to Fetishcon last year and my sugar was off(diabetes), it's under control now. But I felt yucky plus wonder if it was something with the airplane ride too. Didn't get to enjoy it like I wanted to. Might be a thing with conventions though lol.

I must be the Lucky one, I never get sick at the shows, i think because I travel so much my immune system has adapted to airplanes, hotels ,and smoke filled rooms . Hope everyone feels better soon

Con crud is pretty common at all kinds of conventions. It was always common after all the gaming conventions i've gone to.

And it's not really unexpected, either. Think about it, at a convention you are:

Mingling with people (and germs) from all over. Much more likely to breathe in a strain that you are not immune to.

You are going well past normal endurance for days at a time. When you're having a blast, sleep is for the weak. But all the go-go-go wears down your resistances. Partying all night every night lowers your immune system and even the good stress of having fun at a convention adds up and further lowers our immune system. And for those of us who are at all introverted or crowd-averse, even a fun convention isn't ALL the good kind of stress. Alcohol and drugs can put a strain on the system as much as fatigue, so double- or triple-dipping is bound to have consequences.

I normally try to take preventives like zinc or emergen-C every day during a con, regardless of how I am feeling. I am lucky, I went to GenCon for ten years in a row (50,000+ on Saturday, the last time I was there), usually for 5-6 days at a time and the only time I ever got sick was when I was struck down by a sinus infection the day I got there that dropped me for pretty much the whole con.

My best to everyone who is sick, I haven't traveled anywhere and have been ill for 10 days! Hand sanitizer is becoming a must of social existence in the winter.

I can't remember the last time I was this sick...it's horrible. I'm giving it until tomorrow before I go see a doctor. SEVERE body aches, chills, runny nose, right side of my head is congested. I maybe had 4 drinks the entire 6 days I was there but unfortunately since I was running a booth, managing over a dozen performers, conducting interviews, appearing in the Girlsway booth and attending the awards, I only got about 4 hrs of sleep a night and only ate twice a day. I tried to be preventative by taking my vitamins, tumeric and emergen-c, but it got the best of me. Yesterday and today have been the worst and I've barely gotten out of bed all day. Just absolutely horrible! I feel for anyone that has the same sickness.

So sorry you guys. I feel for you. I have been so lucky lately. I started taking echinecea every day when everyone started getting sick and I was pretty religious about it. Even being with sick people every day and not getting a flu shot (Dave got one and he's been sick several times) I really swear by echinecea. There is a reason people have been taking for about 1000 years. Because it works.

Akira Lane is still sick, she canceled her show because of it. Platinum Puzzy was super sick too. Seriously I think it's like 75% of the people who went to AVN.

There was a flu epidemic going thru my office at both locations that started after Xmas so I started drinking OJ every day since then and it seemed to help. I've never had a flu shot in my life. It seems that those who get them tend to get sick more from my perspective.

I lost my voice and got a head cold as well. After a half a week, I finally feel better. I know a lot of people got sick this time... Carmen isn't feeling very well either. I hope everyone feels better soon!

"I've been extremely ill with the flu since I got back. Worst I've ever experienced. Only was able to get out of bed for the first time today."

I didn't get sick from NJ... But every so often, we all get sick at the nursing home...so here I am, blocked nose and all congested... x/
