MANAGING YOUR TOPIC SUBSCRIPTIONS

In the UCP (User Control Panel - The icon upper right with the gear) you will find a "Manage Subscriptions" button. Click that.

This is supposed to be a list of all the topics you are subscribed to. But 61 pages are shown for me, and I am unsubscribed from everything but 3 moderators topics. Not sure why so many show up for me. When I first signed up, I was getting many emails every day. With Vicky's help, I fingered out how to unsubscribe from everything, as I was coming here every day anyhow, and would see all new posts, thanks to the little orange Alert button.

Anyway, I don't see any way to unsubscribe the entire board. So it looks like you have to wade thru all 61 or whatever pages to do it. At the bottom on the left, you will find "Mark all • Unmark all." Caution: If you "Mark All" then move to the second page, it will unselect all of page 1. You need to click "Mark All," then "Unwatch Marked," then move on to page two. So it might get a little odious. Also, once you select "Mark All" and "Unwatch Marked," those topics stay there. Seems to me they should disappear, since the page is listed as Topics you Watch. So, remember which page you're on as you wade thru it.

Then, if there are a few you do want to subscribe to, there is a "Subscribe Topic" button at the bottom. when you read a post, and want to be notified of new posts, just click "Subscribe Topic" at the bottom.

SETTING YOUR BOARD PREFERENCES

This is where you go to set how you want to interact with the board. For example - Daylight Savings Time

The time a post is made is shown at the top of each post made. Twice a year, we all (except Emily and Rio in Arizona, lol) go through this. If you want your times to be correct, be sure to come here and 1) Set your proper time zone, and, 2) set your DST to either on or off, as appropriate.

You can also select how the Date and time are displayed. Select one of several formats.

FRIENDS AND FOES

Here you can choose who you like (a Friend) and who you do not wish to interact with (a Foe.) For example, if you do not like someone's posts, you can add them to your Foes list. After that, their posts will not show up in your forum. There will instead be a placeholder there, and you will have the option to see the post if you wish. Click the link shown and the post will appear. If you then refresh the page, the post will again be hidden.

Adding Friends - Here you can select those you want/need quick access to; i.e. those you might contact on occasion. When you wish to send a PM to someone, you obviously have to put their name in the Addressee box. As with everything computer related, it has to be precise. Given there is quite a selection of user names, it might be hard to remember precisely that name you want. There are several ways to find it.

One is to just go to the board and find one of their posts. Copy their user name and paste it in the addressee box. Another way is to go to the master members list. You can sort that list by date joined or alphabetically or however you like to help your search, by clicking on the proper column heading. But what if it was all ready on your Friends list?

Once you find the user name, copy it. Come to your Friends and Foes page. On the second Button row, you will see ""Manage Friends" and "Manage Foes." Click "Manage Friends." Paste their name into the "Add new Friends"" box and click "Submit." If you wish to do so, you may add several at once, one per line.

Once you have done this, their name will appear on your Friends list at the upper left. Then, when you wish to message them, you just click "Compose Message" on your Message page, then select their name from the list and click "Add."

If you find that you no longer have a need to have someone on your Friends list, removing them is just as easy. This action does nothing but remove them from your list. It has no other effect.

Selecting Foes - For this action, the method is pretty much the same. You select "Manage Foes," you add the proper user name to the "Add new Foes" box and click "Submit."

Note that you cannot ignore Moderators and Administrators. So, good luck shutting me up. :lmao:

I hope you find this helpful in setting up your board preferences. Please feel free to PM me at any time if you need help.

Just happened to think of something. If you are not subscribed to this topic, do it. It will send an email to your email whenever I make a post to this thread.

First, make sure your email is correct in your profile. Then, look at the bottom left of this page. If you see "Unsubscribe Topic," you are all ready subscribed to it and should be getting emails whenever I (or anyone) posts to this topic. If it says "Subscribe Topic," it means you are NOT subscribed. Click those blue words and you will be subscribed, and should start receiving emails whenever anyone posts here. Note: I am not always up to speed on those posts. The Models schedule is always the most up-to-date.

Walt. I checked my profile and I don't have an email entered. Where do I put it?

(Without an email address, you won't even get a notice then I answer this, lol.)

Open two tabs, one on this post, and another to perform the steps.

At the upper right click the Gear (User Control Panel.)

Next page, at left center, (two rows of buttons,) click "Profile."

Next, click "Edit Account Settings."

Under Account Settings, you will see a box to enter your email address. Enter that and "Confirm Email Address." Click "Submit."

Next, top row of buttons, click "Board Preferences."

Next, go thru the list and click Yes/No as you wish. Toward the bottom, set your time zone, click the DST "Yes" button, and set the way you'd like to send your time displayed.

Click "Submit" at the bottom and you're done.

Sit back and wait for some to make a post. If you start getting emails from too many topics, do this:

Go back to the "Overview" page.

Click "Manage Subscriptions."

At the bottom left, the best way to start fresh is to click "Mark All," then "Unwatch Marked." If there are several pages of topics, you will have to do that for every page, one at a time. Then, as you read the posts in various topics, at the bottom left, click "Subscribe Topic." I don't click many, because I come here every day and will see the topics with new posts anyway. So I have only clicked 4 that I want to check immediately when someone makes a post.

See how all that works. If you get lost, let me know.

Thanks Walt. I checked and I had all that info already entered so why am I not getting email notifications? Do I have to subscribe to each one I want to be notified for?
Guess I will never get to see Emily Rain again cause she keeps canceling or moving around. lol

Yes, you have to be subscribed to topics you want notifications from.

Like I mentioned, look at the bottom left of each topic page. If it says "Unsubscribe topic," you are subscribed to it. If it says "Subscribe Topic," you are NOT subscribed to it. Click those words and you will be subscribed and should start receiving email notifications.
