We just booked our first little vacation in a long time! Are we nuts? Iceland in November! Well maybe and maybe not!
The northern lights are said to be spectacular this time of year! They are already posting pics of it from Reykjavik. Check this out

It's a direct flight from Tampa, leaves at 6 pm and arrives Iceland at 6:10 am. It's a 7hr 15 min flight there (5 hrs time diff?) and 8 hr flight back. (winds)

Dave and I already ordered boots, coats, grips for hiking, and thermoses for our trip! Woot woot!
We have prebooked the www.TheBlueLagoon.com for the first day since we get there at 6 am and wont have a hotel room till 3 or 4 lol.... check this out! Read the reviews!

I need this! Between work in general, hackers, Dave's dad, etc we need a sanity break!

I have a jealousy hard-on right now. I have always wanted to go there. Looks like I'll have to experience it through the eyes of the Commander in Briefs.

What an amazing trip !! Hope that you have the best time ever. :yeahbaby:

I plan on going thru Reykjavik when/if I ever head to England and Norway. It looks like a really nice place. I toured it using Google Earth.

A friend of mine at work went to Iceland just last month. I saw her pictures today and holy shit were they awesome! Make sure to visit all the waterfalls and glaciers you can; if they are half as impressive as the pictures my friend took, you'll be blown away.

I will post a bunch of pics here tomorow, this 5 hour time difference is catching up to me! It's 11:40 here and I gotta sleep! Another big day out sightseeing tomorrow! So much cold air and exercise is exhausting! We are loving every minute of it though! Even though I"m from Norway and I grew up in Canada, I forgot what cold was! lol.... I have been in the southern usa for a long long time and in florida since 2009! I think our blood thinned! It's not actually that cold in all reality, it gets colder in NY, Montreal and Calgary I think, the average in the winter here is around 0 celcuis or 32 F, kind of mild really if there is no wind. But when it blows it is just brutal! Stinging, icy cold, hands hurt in a minute without gloves. (It's a little colder out on the glaciers but only -10) The first day out I forgot my gloves (just not used to it!) Yesterday I only wore one pair of socks, today I wore 2! OK getting the hang of it, lol... lots of layers is the key!

We went out till 2 am last night hunting the northern lights, (even with a paid guide) but didn't find anything... will try again tomorrow night!

The food is amazing, we have been trying so much local food, homemade breads and jams... homemade lamb soup, shellfish soup, rice pancakes, homemade lemon syrup, the B&B we are staying in, the lady has chickens so we have fresh eggs every morning, her sister goes fishing and we have fresh smoked atlantic salmon and caviar with every breakfast! This is the land that time forgot, they still do everything the old way, Tonight we went crazy on Icelandic chocolate! Dark and rich, with hazelnuts, some with seasalt and caramel and some marzipan. I seriously ate so much chocolate I could barely move after!

More tomorrow! Kiss!

Funny how everything is relative. We were having breakfast this morning at the B & B with 3 girls from England discussing travelling in the various areas of Iceland. I can't believe they drive here since they are used to driving on the other side of the street! Anyway the roads are perfectly paved and cared for, so smooth, no cracks or potholes like in Canada.... I commented how the gas was so expensive here @ $8 gallon. (we pay $2.39 gal in Florida). She looked at me incredulously and said its cheaper here than in England! It's all in where you are from! I love staying in a B&B so much more than a hotel. You really get the flavour of the area and meet people from everywhere. Reinforces how small the planet really is, and America is not the center of the universe and people are not shy to tell us what they think of our president!

Other interesting facts about Iceland:

People killed per year by guns - 1 or 2. The police don't even carry guns.

Homeless people - 0
