Wed Oct 17 is the Day For You Pot Smoking Canadians!

Wednesday, October 17th, is the day that Canada as an entire country legalizes recreational marijuana use. They are only the second country in the entire world to do this! Go Canada! This is quite fascinating!



So many questions! Apparently it will match the drinking age in each province since they are different. It is still illegal to cross the border with weed if if it's from a province where it's legal to a state where it's legal.

They are even talking about pardoning people who were convicted in the past. the world is watching you Canada! Please do a great job on this do we can all learn from you!

This is going to be interesting to say the least. I'm waiting for the legal challenges from workers who are using weed recreationally, but are in jobs that are safety sensitive...and from the first policeman who is fired after toking up on his day off (not allowed)

Wow so many things to consider. It's so confusing! Just because it's legal federally doesn't mean it's legal provincially! The provincial governments can file suit against the federal government now saying that they are stepping on their powers?

I don't think just because it's going to be legal that a whole lot of new users will be created. It's hard to tell, but what is really going to be interesting is the way that businesses deal with it.
Did I mention that there is a grow-op only 100 yards from where I work? It's been in operation for the past year getting ready to produce their first crop. It's a fortress of a building.

The problem with making it legal is that it is a moneymaker for the government and the people with a business, but the price for patrons goes thru the roof. I checked around Colorado websites once, since I was going up there. The price for various amounts were at least 4 times what I pay here (given that El Paso is very cheap on street prices) but at least twice the street price in Colorado.

I don't know if it made street availability go down or just made it easier to find for many more.

Yeah but you won't get some bad weed laced with pcp or other drugs, will be much safer and more potent so you use less.

Although I've been abstaining for the past year, I can say the quality of legal weed is top notch, especially extracts and edibles. I'd much rather pay the additional cost for the convenience; I've had to deal with some sketchy motherfuckers in the past.

Well, I don't go down to the bus station and pick up whatever's on the ground, Vicky. I've always dealt with reputable friends, and sometimes even then test before I buy. And, believe me, the quality has always been very high.

I really don't do much any more, just like drinking. Maybe every three or four months, a little. I'm just not interested anymore. And here in El Paso? Right across the river from Mexiweed? It typically runs $20 - $30.ounce. From what I remember, in Colorado shops, they wanted something like $180. I used to get it from my friends up there for $80. $180 is just lining someone's pockets. Believe me, those legal dealers are getting RICH! How? They know that the market is there, big time. So they can charge whatever they can get away with.

Where I am living now there are 6 shops withing 1 mile of my house and the prices match street prices (well I don't know current street prices). All the different strains which have different effects, smells, and tastes. I will admit while between insurance and running out of my night time med I had to find an alternative.

It sounds like the opposite in Canada with Federal law and here in the states it is state law and against federal law.

Nope, just a curious cat who graduated from the "Just Say No" era rhetoric-filled DARE program in the early 90s. In fact, I was pretty dead set against it until my junior year of high school. At that point I started reading authors like Hunter Thompson, Aldous Huxley, Tom Wolfe and Terence McKenna and it became apparent that the programming I had endured as a child was a means of authoritarian control and not rooted in science.

Around that time I learned that a local cop was soliciting bribes in the form of "donations" that the DARE program was receiving following traffic stops and this ended any credibility they had. I've had an interest in psychoactive substances ever since.
