There is a reason the hockey team is called lightning! More people are killed by lightning each year in florida than anywhere else!
It just happened again!
https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/10/us/motor ... index.html

Florida ranks fourth in the nation for lightning flashes behind Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

However, because of the dense population and the amount of people that spend a great deal of time outdoors year-round, more people are struck and killed by lightning in Florida than any other state, according to Vaisala and the National Weather Service.

Seems like I'm hearing about this more and more all the time! Maybe I'll just stay inside from now on when it starts lightning instead of walking in it with the dogs like I usually do!

Vicky, if you can see or even hear lightning, get inside. Lightning can travel up to 100 miles from a storm cell. I'm sure you learned to determine how far away lightning is. When you see lightning, count your seconds. Sound travels at approx 1 mile in 5 sec. So,if you count 10 seconds, the lightning is 2 miles away. If you're downtown, you might not be too bad off. But, if you are out running on the beach, you're like a little antenna out there. You can run, but I'd suggest you run for your car.

Hahaha running from an alligator, live through the lightning strike, but land in a sinkhole...

Or you could be in California, and be running from a Mudslide, straight through the forest fire, but get swallowed up an earthquake...

I stayed inside when lightning was flashing when I lived in Florida. I watched a transformer get hit when I first moved down and learned my lesson.

Any bit of water in Florida could have a gator in it. Learned that while golfing. Be careful on the edge of ponds or lakes. They're fast.

Don't worry too much about the hurricanes it's the tornadoes that do most of the damage during a hurricane. I was filming outside a few years ago and got footage of wind going crazy. Turns out a tornado touched down a couple streets over.

Tampa Bay Lightning. We used to call them the Junior Red Wings because they always seemed to scoop up our released players and coaches. That's when Davidson owned bthem and the Pistons.
