Hope everyone had a good 4th of July. I watched the Macy's firework display on telly - much bigger than our Canada Day display on 1 July.

So, how many people are taking today off to make it an extra long weekend?

Happy Independence Day to all of you in the US. I couldn't find an existing thread, if one exists my apologies for the duplication.

Have fun everyone, but stay safe. As a nurse said on CNN: "If you want to be alive on 1 August, stay home on 4 July".

And thanks for the nice thoughts. Here in El Paso they allowed the selling of fireworks up until noon today. But they're banned for use in El Paso County. So, to remain legal (we know how everyone obeys the law, lol,) they'll have to go into New Mexico (only about 5 miles from me,) or out of the county, at least. New Mexico is basically open to fireworks, so New Mexico is advertising, "Come to New Mexico (to blow your shit up ) for your fireworks."

Here in Northeast El Paso at the border, there's a big fireworks stand. There are usually, I would say, a hundred or more vehicles parked in the desert and along the 4-lane divided highway. It's dangerous as all Hell, because there's no lighting. On Google Earth. search for Newman, Texas. It's quite small, not more than the typical "Hole in the road," lol.

First time I ever drove thru there on July 4th at night, I like to hit some of them. It is a 4-lane divided highway. Cars were parked all up and down both sides of the road (illegal as hell) and people were walking all over the place, all over the road, running back and forth. But it's totally dark. So I came thru at 70 and damn near hit two people who ran across in front of me. Scared me to death. Now if I'm out that way, I know.

There will be several displays in El Paso, but no public gatherings. Ft. Bliss has upgraded their show and say that their fireworks will go 100' higher than previous years, so more can see them.

here Fireworks are against the law but peoplestill shoot them, cause can drive to several areas that sell them close by , also all but one municipality canceled the 4th of July celebration and fireworks. Thanks for the wishes. Have a friend in Florida whose birthday is tomorrow so going to wish her a Happy Birthday tomorrow.

Try different words, Lance. If one word doesn't work juggle them around. I've already forgotten what I searched for, but searching for "July 4th" and "4th of July" both bring it up.
