The world's oldest person turns 117
Japanese woman Kane Tanaka, the oldest living person on the planet, celebrates her 117th birthday on Thursday. Cheers to another year!
Can you imagine what it would been like to have been born in 1903? The things you would have seen, the changes you would have lived through?
The last person to hold that title was Japanese also! Why do the Japanese live so long compared to us? I know it's because they eat so much healthier, fish vegetables and rice! Also it's because they stay social and active with all their friends and family and remain useful - helping with family responsibilities so much longer than we do. The elderly are respected for their wisdom, rather than being laughed at as an old fart. Our society still has so much to learn.

I wonder if we Americans will ever learn. The Japanese and others have been living healthy lifestyles probably their whole history. I hear the Greeks and maybe Italians eat quite healthy, too.
I can resist everything except temptation.
We're always trying to push our stuff on other people too, but to their credit they usually end up making our stuff healthier

That's amazing to live that long. I have a cousin whose grandmother lived to be 115 years old. She was born in 1898! I had the pleasure of meeting the lady! A lady full of life!! May she rest in peace!

Enjoy each day we are not promised tomorrow!
My graddad lived to 104. Oddly enough he was born in 1898 too, so he obviously passed quite a few years before your cousin's grandmother. At 104 he was on a transcontinental trip - travelling solo! And when he was born, the Wright brothers' first flight was still 5 years in the future!Hornylady9 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2020, 11:23 pm That's amazing to live that long. What's remarkable about centenarians born near the end of a century is that that get to see 3 centuries. That's unusual, even for someone who does live to 100.

I've already seen 7 decades (and a half, lol.) I saw the birth of Rock and Roll and all of the Rock groups extant today. Never saw the Beatles or Elvis live, but saw the Rolling Stones the first 3 times they came to the U.S. Seventy six years gives you a lot of history and a lot of development. I remember thinking about the things that Mom and Dad lived thru - the onset of cars and planes, WW1, and 2. Dad was in the Army by WWll, but never had to go to war. Life was sure different in the '50's. I can really see the changes by simply looking back at the '50's. '60's, '70's and beyond. When John Kennedy was killed, I was in Baltimore on leave from Thule, Greenland. I remember wondering if they would try to find me and make me go back. I was not ready to do that, lol.
I remember when I first went to Alaska (1971,) and pretty much everything that happened since. Lots of ups and downs, but all a pretty fantastic ride. I know that Josephine Marcus lived until 1944, a year after I was born. Josie was the wife of Wyatt Earp, of Tombstone and the O.K. Corral. Another of the wives lived for a couple years after that. And that kind of excited me - someone from 1881 at the O.K. Corral was still alive in my lifetime.

That's my attitude. We can change things, but how do we know it's for the better. We have no idea how it would have turned out if we hadn't changed.
I mean, if she'd have drunk Pepsi, maybe she'd still be going,

also is that the only thing they do. I love those secret to life questions they ask them. I remember some old lady was asked and she said she ate chocolate everyday, and I was like I hope that's not the only thing. I do like another lady's response, it was sip of alchohol and cussing and fussing everyday lol.

My grandad, who lived to 104, went through a number of theories over the course of his life. These included, at various times, a glass of stout every day, brandy and sugar once a day, maple syrup, and "don't eat Indian food, it'll kill you"!!
