There are cases of people who died after getting the vaccine, But it's with extenuating circumstances, And it's like .00005% Of people or something like that.... Because it can cause blood clots. There is also a chance of getting blood clots from taking the birth control pill, It is about .0005%

Don't quote me on those numbers exactly I would have to Google it again.... I just know that there is a much higher chance of getting a blood clot from taking the birth control pill then there is from the Covid vaccine.

But women have been on the pill for years and it's an accepted risk. So if birth control pills are fine and risk from vaccine is much less than that, why blow that up?
I had a pulmonary embolism last fall from taking birth control pills for 4 weeks (german: "Anti-Baby-Pille"... such a beautiful language lol). Birth control pills today are pretty much the same like the ones that were introduced in the 60s. They would never get a drug approval nowadays, because the risk for side effects is too high.
But taking birth control is a choice, you don't endanger others if you don't take it. (And pregnancy is not contagious, thank goodness lol)

Vicky is spot on!

Stevie, you can't argue with people on the internet. You won't change anybody's mind. You will only vent your anger at people's stupidity.

For example, A person comes on and says, : I ain't taking any vaccine. I knew a guy who got the shot and then died," Or ",,,then got very sick."

So they are comparing ONE PERSON to the millions of people who have got the shot and are just fine (me, at 78 years old, for example. (OK, 78-1/2, lol)

People that do that are totally ignoring science and up-to-date news from RELIABLE sources. They believe only what they want to believe. Aunt Gertrude told them that she had a friend who had a friend who had a friend who didn't get the vaccine and is just fine. Or got the vaccine and then got sick (a very mild sick.) EXACTLY the same thing happens with the annual flu vaccine that people get every year. You will never convince these bull-headed, ahem, people to get a stinkin' shot.

Let's test that theory, Liz. You stand on a street corner, and I'll walk past you about 5 feet away. In December, you can tell me how it went. ( Yes, I know, LOL)

Very glad you got through that pulmonary embolism OK. I read up, and it can be quite serious. Good for you.

I'm so glad you are ok Liz! You were one of the lucky ones huh!

Kind of curious about what you said about "it would never get approval now?" Don't we change our minds and take things off the market when new information is unearthed? Are you saying once something is approved it cannot me unapproved? Another project for me to google... lol....

Yeah, the lesbian who almost died from taking birth control :signhammer: . But I fully recovered, all good👍
Of course there has to be a constant re-evaluation of drugs.
One of the main arguments of anti-vaxxers here is that "yesterday they said this, tomorrow they'll say that". But to me that only proofs that the (respectable) scientists don't lie. That's how it works, you do some research and adjust your approach. It's always "as far as we know now". Trial and error.
That has (or shouldn't have) nothing to do with politics.
Birth control however has a huge political and social dimension globally because it's been around for decades.
There should be a better education about possible side effects (my doctor just shrugged and said "I told you that might happen"), but you also don't want to cause a panic because for many women, taking birth control is the only way to have at least somewhat of a self-determined life.
It's affordable and it's accessible. Problem is that they market it as a lifestyle drug (to improve your complexion i. e.).
But if some company would try to introduce it to the market today, they would never get an approval.
Sorry for sidetracking. Not sure anyone wanted to read about birth control here.
Stay tuned, next week, we'll talk about tampons :signhammer: :help:

Its an interesting post Liz. And certainly highlights some of the issues and dilemmas faced by the people who have to make the final decisions on approvals - whether drugs or other products.

In another post on this thread Vicky asked "Don't we withdraw approval if more information comes to light"? And the answer of course is sometimes, yes. But it becomes more difficult as time goes on and a product gets more widespread usage. Withdrawing a drug 6 months after approval in the light of new information would be (relatively) simple. Withdrawing birth control pills at this time would be impossible. There may be thousands of women annually who have adverse reactions (including death) from birth control. But there are still hundreds of millions who do benefit from birth control - and avoid complications from unwanted pregnancies, etc. I dont think there is a right or wrong answer.

If you (or anyone else here) wants to explore this further, ask yourself if you should kill the fat man (~smile). Not that is not a dig at obesity - it is a genuine philosophical experiment. Try it here:

Only a hair over 50% of the county here are vaccinated and yet most people coming in the store are not wearing masks so you know most of them are not. Most of our staff who are vaccinated have gone back to wearing masks. I personally never stopped wearing it on the sales floor. I'm not really worried about myself, but I have 2 people in the house who are immunocompromised. I just dont understand people who risk infecting their families just because they dont want to wear a mask.

Hey had a long discussion with with one of my brothers last night on the phone who is an antivaccer. He just insists that he does not trust the government the government, and the and that the vaccine is still not fda approved and hasn't been tested enough for us to know any of the possible long term side effects.... He says if he gets covid it will be like getting the flu and he will be over it in a week whereas he doesn't know what the vaccine could do to him down the road that is his logic.

We talked for a long time, I Told him that I had covid back in March, and I still get occasional chest pain and heart palpitations and I know my cardio is nowhere near what it used to be before I had covid... Oh my God I went to the gym last night to a fitness class and I thought I was going to puke.... I can only do about 50% of what I used to do a year Or 2 ago...... My sense of smell and taste is still a little messed up sometimes.....

Maybe he well feel differently once the vaccine is finally fda approved which I think it is about to be? He says he doesn't want to be a Guinea pig for the government.

My friend just got the Corona Virus... he was very sick. Had the J & J shot... which only has a 66% success rate and they are saying only prevents hospitalization and death...
I'd be curious to know out of all the new vaxxing cases which vaccination they got...

Meanwhile my brother and his family are still not getting vaccinated because they say it's just like having the flu. According to my brother, if they were to catch it, they might be sick for a few days or a week and then it will be done and immunized naturally, because they are all very healthy and don't have any other co-morbid illnesses..... On the other hand, he says he doesn't know what the long term effects of the vaccine are, he doesn't trust the government approving a vaccine so quickly,, and he feels like he is choosing the lesser of the 2 evils for him and his family.

No amount of reasoning, or common sense will change his mind. I just hope and pray that no one in the family gets it and dies.

FACT: All the deaths now are from people getting the Delta variant who were not vaccinated. But according to him that's only because those people already had something else like diabetes et cetera........

I really do struggle to understand the mistrust of people regarding the vaccine. I really think it's down to how they seek out those "facts" to try and validate their fears over it. They won't listen to the words of a medical professional with decades of experience behind them, but they'll listen to Joe Bloggs off Facebook who they know because they are saying what they want to hear. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make 'em drink!

Vicky, that thinking of your brother is just insane. It sounds like my son. He seems to be adamantly against getting shots and has no plans to, last I heard. And he just completed EMT training with the Border Patrol, so that he can help in those situations that require medics. He has always wanted to be an EMT, so this is a big step for him and can only lead to greater things for him. He finished 2nd out of 20, so he did good. I don't bug him, but I just don't understand his refusal to get the shot.

I am happily vaccinated and waiting on the booster. I find it interesting the ones that are not listening to doctors and not getting vaccinated are running to the doctors when they do get covid. I have seen some videos of doctors saying they tell those patients it's to late for the shot now. I would like to know if those people get the flu shot. I think a long the lines like Vicky that if the covid gets FDA proved, then people will be running to get the shot. I feel those that get sick off the 1st shot will not get the 2nd. I do feel sorry for those that have been sick and are dealing with the after affects of covid.
Good luck to us all in this fight!!

I still cant believe how naive I was when this all started. I figured no problem, I'm not planning on going to China and no way would it become a big problem in a developed nation such as ours. Damn I was an idiot.
