Washington DC.

What a great little vacay. Got here on Friday. It's been chilly but perfect for running every morning.

So many great places to run, so many parks, and wide sidewalks, and you can stop and see the monuments like the obelisk, reflection pool, Lincoln memorial, jefferson memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, a million different Smithsonian gorgeous museums, the Supreme Court building, Capitol Hill, the White House,... The list just goes on and on every single thing is absolutely free to get in.

Plus we saw cheap trick here on Sunday night!

Check my pants! They loved them!

Going home today. Boy I miss my mutts!

The least exciting tour we did was the Whitehouse. 4 levels of security to get in, what a pain, Nothing to see. Like I care what China set was used for what dinner? You could just walk around the hallways, and look at the pictures on the walls, not go into any of the rooms. Boring.

I was in DC a couple of years ago to attend a wedding. It does have a lot of nice places to see - and lots as you point out - don't cost anything. They are not in the public eye as much, but my favourites were the FDR and Korean War memorials.

We were at the Korean War Memorial also. Everything was beautiful. The Smithsonian's were incredible, could have spent several more days doing just that. We did Air & Space, Natural History, American History and the National Archives. Saw the actual real declaration of Independence, Bill of rights and Constitution! There are even more Museums that we didn't go to! Just didn't have enough time! Your tax dollars hard at work!

It's such a wonderful and inspirational area. Makes it even more shameful that the people we elect to work there take it all for granted and treat the citizens like burdens.

I'd like to see Smithsonian Museums and some other stuff. But does the White House tour sound boring. Interesting fact did you know the White House used to be pink, yeah it was made out of brick but when it was burned by the British in War of 1812, it was redid in white to hide the burned parts. What saved DC buildings was a freak Hurricane that hit the area or town would have burned to the ground

Vicky, good to see you had a great time in Washington !! From what you have described and photos of exciting places to see there, if I ever travel to the USA, I would include Washington DC as part of my trip.

We are back in Washington again! It's kind of funny the last concert we saw in the USA before covid was cheap trick, and it's the first concert we are going to post covid! It's in the very same theatre too!

We got in yesterday afternoon had dinner with a friend a nd did some shopping.... we checked out an Amazon grocery store and got some snacks and drinks for our hotel room . It was the coolest thing ever. Kinda scary actually. You walk in, scan your phone as you come in the door. Grab a grocery bag and take whatever you want. There is no checkout. No employees. You just walk out and it bills you through your Amazon app for whatever you took. Crazy!

Today we ran along the Potomac river, it was in the 50's, then had lunch and explored Georgetown. Back to the hotel, then in the afternoon we visited the spy museum! All through the tour you play interactive spy games.. my code name was sparkplug..

I would recommend it!

Everything is really close and convenient so you just walk everywhere or grab an Uber if you are bushed! We have 20,000 steps on our Garmin each day!

Hope you have a great visit, and I"m sure you will. I don't imagine I'll ever get there, so it's nice to see things from a visitors perspective. Thanks for the pictures and the updates. I've always wanted to see the Air and Space museum, but with my knees, that's not an option anymore. Thanks for living my dream,

I'm not sure I like Cheap Trick enough to travel that far to see them, though I do love their "I want you to want me".

I heard about those amazon stores when they first opened. I'm not sure I'd ever want to give my phone the capabilities to shop that way.

Glad to hear you had a nice trip. DC is a nice place; I will definitely visit it again some time.

I wasn't aware you had problems with your knees Walt. Sorry to hear that.

Arthritis. I have cream and leg "gloves" which are supposed to help, but they don't much. I'm using Blue-Emu now and it helps, but I still can't walk long distances. I would be hard-pressed to make 100 yards without sitting down. Thanks for the thoughts.

I guess the ElPaso sunshine is a good place to be for you. I'm sure you've heard about lots of remedies and aids - have you ever tried turmeric?

Turmeric and ginger together should help! I have friends who swear by it.

Cheap Trick was amazing as usual last night! Hard to believe Robin Zander is 68! He looks incredible -stays in shape! He gave me a smile and a wink when he saw my skirt! The guitarist Rick Neilsen is 72 and he is still all over the stage and completely with it! He tossed me a guitar pick. Later he threw a whole stack of them into the crowd. They played for 90 minutes.

You have fun wherever you go - no matter where that might be. But, still, I am really happy to hear you enjoying Washington so much. Probably the most I have ever studied about Washington was about John Wilkes Booth and his escape. I have read up about the whole thing, and about his escape route, and highlighted it on Google Earth. The idea being it might be cool to follow that route were I ever to get to Washington. I like Google Earth because I can, for example, go to Ford's Theater and go to Street View, where I can see the actual street scene, both the theater and across the street, where Lincoln's body was taken. I have done so in Chicago, reading about the St. Valentines Day Massacre. The garage is no longer there, but other sites are. I have read about and followed the exploits of Bonnie and Clyde. I have visited (virtually) their grave sites. I have visited (actually) the site where they were killed, south of Gibsland, La. Any buildings, sights or venues are easy to see. Even out west, I am always looking up places to at least do a Virtual visit.

But, like you said, there are a million things to see and do in Washington. It would take six months to travel around the city and to really investigate and enjoy all you would like to see. So, after Cheap Trick, tire yourself out seeing all you can see. Remember, TheOldGuy is living vicariously thru all your adventures.

Interesting what you said about John Wilkes Booth. The one time I was in DC was to attend a niece's wedding. The groom had a friend who runs a business taking visitors on walking tours around DC. As a gift to the couple, he took out of town visitors on a tour along exactly the lines that you described. It was very interesting. And fun facts trivia facts that most people don't know (and I've mostly forgotten!).
