How does everyone feel about this? Just curious? What sort of information do you think that Tik Tok is gathering from us? The exact same thing that Google and Facebook is already collecting?
This may sound really naive, but instead of banning it can't we just have a way to turn off the data collection? Like something that could be built into our phones, or we run a separate app side-by-side to stop the data collection? There are brilliant engineers why can we not create that?
I've heard that for a Chinese people the WeChat is very important because it's one of the only ways that they can send money to their families? Or maybe we just don't want money leaving our country?
What is the real scoop here?

I don't use Tik Tok, so I am not sure what the deal is but I sure hope someone can explain it. Just interesting that they want to ban it.

It seems to be more of a political decision to weaken China's influence. Like the ban of Huawei. There was never verifiable evidence that Huawei is a safety risk and they really collect data for the Chinese government. (or at least that evidence was never published)
Facebook was never punished for the Cambridge Analytica scandal (there was a huge leak and personal user data was used for customized political ads to influence voters). I think this weekend, a US company will buy TikTok and the ban will be lifted.
The ban of WeChat is justified in my opinion.
WeChat is super popular in China, because all alternatives are banned or at least censored. There is literally no life without it, besides messaging and making calls, they use it to make payments, book a table at a restaurant, get a taxi... They basically know everything about you and your life. And they openly admit that they share everything with the Chinese government, including police, courts etc.
Sorry, that was long

Having too much sex can cause memory loss. I read that on page 69 in a medical journal on the 4th of May in 2008.
I figure it's political or something. Supposedly it's giving our info to China, honestly doesn't all the other stuff send our info to everybody that wants it.

Yeah that's what I was wondering? Why is it so important right now? One Coast is on fire and burning up, the other coast is drowning and having hurricanes, we have race riots all over the country, meanwhile we are probably going into the second wave of a pandemic! Why are we seemingly more worried about an app?
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

They are making it out to be so important right now because they are trying to distract people from all the negative news reports coming out about the administration. With the election coming up the white house doesnt want people paying attention to the real issues so they make this out to be way more of a threat than it actually is and then say they are the only ones doing anything about it.,
Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to :-)

Obviously in this election time it's convenient shift attention of the public opinion on this bullshit, for avoid the serious problem. For WeChat i think is a continuation of the chinese ban, for Tik Tok seriously i don't know why
