From what I understand, if you take it as a lump sum, the amount you get in hand is about half that. Which is still nothing to sneeze at. I'd give larger sums to a smaller number of charities rather than small amounts to lots of charities. But I think I'd try and use a lot of it as seed money to help new business ventures.

Yeah me too... The lump sum is $546 million.... I would figure out housing for homeless people in my city, and then give that as a blueprint to other cities.... I would incorporate homeless dogs into that somehow also....

I'd take the lump some, use some for my family, then help others

Build my dream home near a fjord in Finland, just go to a store and pay for everyone's groceries, organize my own music festival with all of my favorite bands (free entry for everyone), support local charities...
But honestly also try to have some fun with it the George-Best-way...
Edit: Just googled George Best, didn't know super much about him before besides his legendary quotes like "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered." so...

Ok, let me clear the air now.

I was not the Marylander that won $730 million last night. Wish I was though.

My favorite vacations are long getaway weekends with 10-20 friends where we play games together all weekend. So I would spend a million or so on one of those big homes in a warm scenic place and have a standing open door policy for friends to show up whenever. I would put another couple million in retirement funds to make sure I can pay the bills (and taxes). The rest can go to a bunch of different charities. It would be important for me to not have lots of money left over, because then I wouldn't feel guilty saying 'no' to the moochers.

let's see. pay off all the debts for my family members. Buy a nice house. travel. Give a big donation to the hospice center that took care of my mom at the end to cover the salaries to hire a couple of more nurses for the staff. help out friends who are in need. Look into buying some homes to provide housing for homeless students who are trying to get their education while having to live on the streets

And someone n Michigan won a BILLION dollars last night.

Wow! I buy tickets like maybe twice a year, I'm gonna start buying them more often!
