Something made me think of a video I was fond of, although I don't remember when I first saw it. I think I saw the 1979 version first, since I remember the airplane and not the space shuttle. Then, as part of the full-length movie based on the short, they updated the airplane to the shuttle. The 1988 movie split the speed and time sections apart, and put time first in the movie.

The whole movie is 1 hour 37 minutes. Some of the humor is extremely corny, but paying attention to the background visuals and audio reveals some good ones.
Also, there are some surprisingly famous people in cameos or short appearances, like Angelique Pettyjohn, Stephen Stucker, and Phillip Michael Thomas.

Here is the original short;

A little more on Angelique Pettyjohn. I didn't realize that she was in so many things that I have seen.
She was Agent 38(C) in Get Smart. Also, in the Wizard of Speed and Time, there is a poster in her character's office of the only role I used to know her from: the drill thrall for Captain Kirk. Only rewatching the movie did I notice that she was the woman in the poster.

In her role as Agent 38, she portrays a male agent who is just in disguise:

That's pretty good! I haven't seen it before.

As a result of the thread wishing Shanda a happy birthday, I learned about "Canadien" vs. "Canadian". One of my mouse hovers brought up a blue field with white fleur-de-lis on it. That reminded me of a funny CGI video called "A Gentleman's Duel" that is 7 minutes 45 seconds long. A wealthy lady, possibly in the Victorian era, is being courted by two gentlemen, one English and one French. I also grabbed a screencap of a scene that goes by very quickly. The gentleman in the screencap is the lady's butler. The gentlemen have gotten into a duel over her and are causing quite a bit of destruction. She is frightened by the violence and seeks the help of her butler.

That's a powerful scene! After watching it I was surprised that it was only three minutes.

Although, it reminded me that I never cared for that voice for Batman. There were a couple of different YouTube channels that made fun of gravel-voice Batman and his catchphrase "Because I'm Batman!".

1. Pete Holmes, associated with the channel CollegeHumor (51 minutes, and the first skit deals with the voice)

phpBB [media]

2. Super Cafe, which was put at the end of various skits done by "How It Should Have Ended" or "HISHE". The main skits from HISHE basically made fun of plot holes from any movie. After the main skit, though, sometimes there would be a Super Cafe skit, with Superman and Batman enjoying a cup of coffee and chatting. These compilations are roughly 30 minutes each.

I don't think I saw the movie this is from, but I think I have seen this clip before. It definitely shows how much special effects have advanced since the days of "The Wizard of Speed and Time". I am fond of The Wizard of Speed and Time because it reminds of my high-school days. I saw part of another cheesy movie called "Hardware Wars" (or perhaps the whole thing and I have forgotten most of it) when I was in highschool. I also took a film communications class and made two 8mm films with a friend. I think some of the weapons effects in Hardware Wars were done with negative scratches, where you scrape the image off of the film stock to produce white blotches. We used it for a teleporter.

This is my all-time favorite Burger King commercial. The long version of it may have had the full speaking part of the woman on the swing at the end, but as I recall they quickly cut it into the long version and the short version. The whole commercial is bold, but the ending with the swing may have been too much for the broadcast television censors. I liked the ending, but I remember being disappointed that I didn't get to see it very much.

Long form:

Short form with good ending:

There is a web page, which is apparently dedicated to advertising professionals, where someone is asking for input as to who all the actors and actresses might be. The singer is Darius Rucker. According to wikipedia, "Hootie and the Blowfish" was the whole band name, and there is no "Hootie". The page analyzing the commercial, however, calls Mr. Rucker "Cowboy Hootie". Key and Peele did a comedy bit about what every Darius Rucker concert must be like.

First, the Key and Peele skit:

You know, I almost mentioned SpaceBalls, but I didn't. It's pretty good. I think Young Frankenstein is my favorite Mel Brooks film.

The best part for me was "I don't think you'll do that" and the reply of "I don't think you're listening."

I am glad you liked it. I believe there is a continuity error in it, however.

SPOILER ALERT

If you have not watched "A Gentleman's Duel", you may wish to. What follows will spoil the ending.

We can see that the lady's gloves appear to be single-piece items with angled openings for the arms, as shown.
glove_style.jpg

And it appears she is still wearing them at the end of the video.

So how is it that we pan past one of the gloves in the debris as the credits are being shown?

Some Carol Cleveland from back in the day:

Note that in this sketch Michael Palin walks past "himself" as he plays both
the guy with the cigarette AND the milkman.
phpBB [media]

The first version of this sketch includes the portion where the Marriage Guidance Councelor
runs his hand up Carol's thigh. The second version jump-cuts past that, perhaps for broadcast
in certain countries. I remember a third version where John Cleese's pep-talk to Arthur was in
the character of an American Cowboy instead of God, but my super-duper lazy search didn't
turn it up.
