Havng been stuck out in Arizona for 3 weeks, I kind of got away from my car. I'm headed out again on Wednesday for another week, so I'll take it with me and finish it there. I'm about 3/4 done, so that shouldn't be a problem. After that, I'll start on either a plastic car or an airplane. These will involve some painting and, if I start on the car, maybe some body work.

Been mostly offline for a week or so - probably just over a week - as I was just struggling a little... but I filled several evenings with building my Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Lego set. It turned out much bigger than I was expecting, and in total took me around 20 hours to complete. And here it is!

Thanks Walt! I still have a couple left to build which I am leaving possibly for my week off at the end of the month… but won’t be buying myself so much in the lead up to Christmas, as I’ll be buying gifts for others instead! Well, maybe one or two for me as well!

Despite the indulgences of my Manchester trip, I've been relatively good of late with the frivolous purchases - mostly because I am trying to really organise the monthly outgoings a bit to hopefully balance things with cost of living increases we are all facing - but this is something that I actually had on preorder since late last year. A board game based on the video game Stardew Valley... a game that strikes a special cord for me as it was all I played dawn till dusk while stuck in bed recovering from my hernia operation a few years ago, and prevented me from going completely out of my mind! It's single player, or can be played co-operatively with others. Looking forward to giving it a spin soon!

I have played Stardew Valley a bit. Enough to figure out that it really isn't my thing. I have enjoyed watching others play it on Twitch, though. I wasn't even tempted when Animal Crossing; New Horizons came out and lots of friends went crazy for it. I was content to watch others play that on Twitch, too.

GOLF? isn't that where someone grabs a stick and hits a ball a few feet with it? Then walks up to the ball and hits it farther? Then walks up to it again and hits it further away? Then they get tired of walking, so they just hit it into a hole in the ground?

If it's real golf, I think they hit it more than a few feet. If they find that most of the fun is in the last few feet to the hole, then that's mini-golf or putt-putt. I used to like that, and now I like watching videos of this couple who do the traveling for me:

I found out about Stardew Valley watching a guy who calls himself Lanipator (although his YouTube channel is called Nick Lani), who made videos while playing the electronic version of the game. It looked great, but I was afraid of being sucked into it, so I never looked into what it would take to play it myself.

He apparently also does voice work. He does an excellent job of impersonating the two main characters of an anime series I used to watch called Yu Yu Hakusho. His parodies are hilarious, especially if you remember the original episodes. I think some of them hold up even if you haven't seen the original series.

I think this is my favorite parody of the original series:

After the original series, there were some specials. In one of them, for some strange reason, the voices all sounded weird and they decided to change the pronunciation of the main characters' names. I remember thinking the chase scene in the original was kinda lethargic, and this guy picked up on both of those problems:

I only played Golf once, Erik. Went out about 3 PM tp play a round with a friend. I shot an 83, which I didn't think was too bad.

But it got dark before we finished the 3rd hole. No telling how much I might have scored if we had gone out at 6 A.M., :rotffl:

It gets very deep once you get into it but I can appreciate it's not for everyone. I haven't touched Animal Crossing: New Horizons for about a year now I think... but I've played all those as well since the first one on the old GameCube and it was about the same... went on almost daily for a year and then never touched it again!

In itself I guess this game wasn't really "expensive" as it's not a collector's edition, but it is from Limited Run Games - a company that make physical editions of games that are only really available digitally. This last week I received from them "Dark Nights with Poe and Munro" which is a full motion video (FMV) game, totally live action with interactive prompts to further the story, and now concludes this company's trilogy of FMV games which I had previously purchased. I now actually own these three games at least twice each (in some cases three times) on different formats!

I used to have an expensive hobby until I exchanged it for a moderately less expensive one (not for that reason though).

In the late 90s I was heavily into sci fi and fantasy table top wargaming with figures. Those little lead figures cost a lot.

I gave it up however when other interests took over, and then moved into more social board gaming activities, although haven't done that in a while either.

These days my only real hobby is running on the treadmill at the gym and making my own games and software on the PC.

I never got into the WH40K (assuming that's what it was) habit, but I'm glad you survived.
