As you know I'm here with Julia for a week of R&R and catching up! It's her birthday week!

The internet has been just brutal here, it comes and goes, sometimes a text takes hours to arrive... I'll try to update this thread with some pics and video though... when I find a good spot!

The flight here was so long, our first flight to miami was delayed 2 times, it was cut so close we almost missed our connection to San Jose, we had to run like mofo's to the next gate. Got on the plane just in time then it sat there on the tarmac for an hour.... lol... Once we got to San Jose, we hooked up with Julia and we hired a van and driver to take us the 5 hours to the carribbean side.... we got in around 6, dumped our stuff in the room and went out to eat!

Its so lush and green and fresh, with so much wildlife. The resort we are at is run by 2 floridian transplants so that was interesting! They have been super helpful, they bring coffee to the room at 6:30 am every morning, and they cook us breakfast in a big outdoor kitchen. The food here has been amazing so far! Trying all sorts of new things! There are dogs and cats wandering around the restaurants, like they belong there, and everyone feeds them.

It's not the safest country for sure, our compound has 10 foot walls around it as do all the other resorts and even the houses, some have the 10 foot walls plus barbed wire on top of that. We are sticking to the tours with guides.

The first day we just explored our town, did shopping, had a massage on the beach and a nice dinner out. I'm sure you saw this on instagram?

Today Dave and I went for a run at 7 am, and then met Julia for our ziplining tour at 8:30! OMG it's humid in florida but this is something else. I could wring out my clothes! We take several showers per day!

There were 13 ziplines and a tarzan swing. I'll post more of them later, for some reason, this is the only one I could get up. It's the 13th zip and as you can see we nailed it by then! Before that I was doing some spinning around and stuff I apparently wasn't supposed to do! lol...

Then lunch, and went to the beach!

Very cool stuff. I remember when we went ziplining on Fremont Street in Vegas. I was scared shitless. And we weren't even on the high line, lol. As I reached the end, my feet were kicking like crazy reaching for the platform. :lmao:

There is a place about 5 miles from my house that does zip lining. Its a series of zip lines with a couple of places where you have to repel down also. The whole course is about 3 hours. Gone a couple of times. A lot of fun

I've heard there is lots of good ziplining in Costa Rica. But I'm surprised about the safety - I thought Costa Rica was a safe country to travel around in.

It was on a trip to Costa Rica that my daughter's then boyfriend proposed to her!

Not safe at all. I asked the resort owner if I could go jogging at 6 am and he said definitely not without Dave with me. He said in the previous month there were 7 rapes in the area. Hard to believe. So beautiful... so dangerous.

We went on a 6 mile hike today! Through the Cahuita national forest. (Not sure of that spelling). We saw monkeys in the first 2 min! We saw sloths, raccoons, anteaters and snakes and some of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen! Even though it was flat it was tough terrain with lots of trees and roots to fall over, mud like quicksand, and waves coming in over the trail sometimes! So humid and sticky, but no mosquitos! Weird! They have "bullet ants" that grow huge and are said to give the most painful bug bite known to mankind, hence the name!

With the temp and humidity it was exhausting and we went for a lovely meal after at a "soda". (Soda =family restaurant). The food here is incredible! Everything fresh from farm to table, healthy, tasty and cheap! The people are so warm and friendly.

My phone does have 50x zoom but you lose definition when zooming in like that.

Vicky, lovely scenery in the pics. and Wow !! Such a lot of animal life you encountered in your hike in the forest.
Despite, the safety issues you mentioned, sounds like you are having a great time in Costa Rica.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of places pretty much everywhere where it's not safe to move around freely and unaccompanied as a woman, but as long as you meet some precautions everything will be alright!
And judging by the pictures and posts, you're having a great vacation, that's awesome!

This is the sloth that lives at the resort we stayed at. It basically stays in three trees, a week in each one and does a rotation. They named it Erika after a lazy employee that they fired.....

Here is the baby who will live at the rescue the rest if his life. (His mother was electrocuted). He has some health issues they think because of being malnourished as a result of losing his mother too soon. He simply cannot gain any weight.

The things we're never told. We all know Vicky and Rokkerr went to Costa Rica a couple weeks ago. Through some diligent research, I found a few details.

While Vicky handled the reservations, she asked Rokkerr if he would book the flight. Well, Rokkerr, always the frugal one, thought he'd save a few bucks and book one of the lower cost airlines. Well, he found a great one. For only $19.95, Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company will fly you to Costa Rica. Well, Rokerr jumped on that one.

Turns out, Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company will also give you a video remembrance of your flight. They also post it on Facebook for your friends. I found the lnk.
