I spent the weekend with my daughter and son-in-law and had a wonderful time. The trip normally takes about 5 hours; it took 5.5 hours to get there Wednesday and 6.5 hours to get home today.

I need to get more organized. By the time I remember to check here, it is pretty late, and I am too bleary-eyed to respond to things. Some days I realize that is the case, so I don't even check in. And, apparently, multiple days can get by me without my even realizing it.
I have this computer set up in my office, and just turn to it once in a while for a break. Or when I'm on a tedious telecon that has no useful purpose or objective.ErikB wrote: ↑November 30th, 2021, 7:37 pmThanks Lance!lance_s wrote: ↑November 30th, 2021, 9:10 amHello Erik, Nice to "see" you back.ErikB wrote: ↑November 30th, 2021, 2:58 amYour sentiment definitely reflects mine! Happy Thanksgiving to all the American members! Canada's Thanksgiving was in October.
Let's not celebrate how we came here as immigrants, killed the Indians, gave them syphilis and other diseases they never had before, and stole their land....... but rather celebrate how lucky we are and have so many things to be thankful for. Like I am thankful for you guys!

Here is an amusing video providing a little more detail on the history of Thanksgiving. If their research is correct, most of the deadly diseases came from earlier Spanish explorers. Here is a screencap from the video:
Now, they DO pick on Canada a little towards the end because of Canada having a Thanksgiving but not on the same day. They make a comment about the United States letting Canada be a separate country . That reminded me that The United States actually invaded Canada during the War of 1812. I remembered that the invading Americans lost pretty badly. This article that I found seems to explain things pretty well. It mentions Canada's version of Paul Revere, who was a woman named Laura Secord.. She overheard some Americans planning an attack, and hiked for 18 hours through swampland and forest to warn the British. The Brits ambushed the Americans and captured 462 soldiers. She wasn't really thanked until almost 50 years later. At least she was still alive to be thanked, instead of having to settle for a posthumous honor.

I also remembered that the original Plymouth Colony was an experiment in communism. I found this audio from Paul Harvey giving a version of the history.
And, of course, there is the infamous turkey promotional episode of WKRP in Cincinatti, followed by one of my favorite episodes. I had originally just put the theme song here, but when I found this episode I decided to do a swap. I really love the interaction between the station owner and her butler. The butler played Mr. Atoz in an episode of Star Trek ("All Our Yesterdays").

Do you ever get tired of turkey leftovers? When I was a kid and we did a turkey, with 4 in the family we could make it disappear quickly enough. I think we did ham quite a few years rather than turkey. I don't remember whether that was due to the effort of the turkey or we just didn't like the taste as much. I have tried turkey hot dogs, and I find I don't care for them.
