The tower at night!

This picture makes it look like going up the tower is at least doable. The others made it look like the only way to get up would be by hanging from straps attached to the ceiling, like on a subway.

And, this picture made me curious enough to want to find out what the Leaning Tower of Pisa is actually for, because I never knew. It turns out, according to Wikipedia, that it is a free-standing bell tower for Pisa Cathedral. The plaza where it is located also contains the cathedral, the baptistry, and the monumental cemetery, all very old and fancy-schmancy. Wikipedia says that the tower leans because of soft ground that couldn't support the weight. I think the tower is actually just jealous, because here we can clearly see that the tower is photo-bombing the cathedral:

Yep they built it in the 1100's and it was already leaning by the time the got the 2nd level built. But they kept going! By the 3rd level they tried to balance it by making taller walls (heavier) on one side. It feels really weird inside, makes you feel like you are drunk lol....then they stopped construction for a few years to fight some wars and then continued. Experts say, that's what saved it, in those years the ground solidified it...

That's a nice thought, and I don't mean to cast doubt on Vicky's powers, but at 650 I don't think you will get the same verticality as, say, when it was 20.

This one made me go down a rabbit hole of research into Attack Of The 50-foot Woman.


This review seems to be pretty good, although I did skip around a little. I thought the rubber hand prop was pretty good, in a cheesy way. Also, while the 1993 remake may have better story and technical properties, the hotties in the original (both the 50-foot woman and the gold-digger) were definitely better. This review also has some quick clips of some other pretty good films.

Do you like trains? I like to see how well they squeeze accommodations into tight spaces, especially sleeper cars. This guy likes to review all sorts of trains:

It looks like it takes only 3 hours to drive from Pisa to Venice (https://www.distance-cities.com), so even less at 150 mph! I doubt your train had any sleeper cars, then.

Speaking of Venice, there's one only an hour's drive from Tampa. You could have saved yourself a longer trip and watched a 'gator to boot!

And the one with the watery design might be either to remind males to put the seat up, or help camouflage any misses. I don't know which restroom that picture was taken in. It DID remind me of a couple of artists who work with epoxy a lot. They created their own toilet seat that contained the same temperature-sensitive substance used in mood rings back in the day

We must have 1200-1500 pics so far....lol... 200 just from Rome... gonna take me forever to go through them! I'll try to do it on the train tomorrow back up to Naples, then a different train back to Rome. Our vacation nearing an end. We go home on tuesday. So sad to go home but i miss my critters and my own food etc....

We have been getting up at 6:30 to be on tours that start at 8 am! I don't even get up that early when I'm working .... this vacation stuff is exhausting! I'm gonna have to rest up when I get home!

Today we hiked a pretty strenuous trail called PATH OF THE GODS. We just got back to the room and Dave is snoring already haha....

I think you can tell it's very rugged terrain. There are no guard rails. It's a hell of a long way down. About 2 min ahead of us, a woman fell. She fell/tumbled a long way. Her body was really small from where we were. We saw a lot of commotion and people yelling. Then there were emergency people in brightly colored vests making their way down the mountain. I heard/noticed a helicopter before that and assumed it was a tour. It was trying to find a way to get to her but of course there was nowhere to land. Then the worst thing happened. Out of nowhere a huge thick mist rolled in. I have no idea how you could fly a helicopter in that. Apparently the weather changes fast and frequently here. They dropped a line and the paramedics attached the stretcher to it and they pulled her up with one of the paramedics. From what we could tell he sat on the outside of the helicopter with the body board till they found a place to land. (A farmer's field I think?) Then we heard an ambulance in the distance and before long he zoomed past us to go meet the helicopter.

No idea what happened after that. Looking for news on it but I think they keep it quiet because it's bad for business.
