Yeah, I think the term lake effect is added when the wind direction means the wind will be picking up moisture over the lake and dumping it when it hits land. This means the snow could worse than a typical winter snowstorm and close to blizzard conditions. The term lake effect is a warning.

So I could see local stations using that term (maybe, lol) but how does that help me? Even if I lived there, knowing me, I probably wouldn't care. I mean, the weather guy will say, "we forecast 6" of snow for tomorrow," and I'll say great. I don't see how figuring out what causes it makes it any easier or harder to figure out. All they gotta say to me is "storm coming," and I know what to expect.

I don't know. Too many things I don't get, lol. I'm sure you're right, Davest. Thanks.

It depends on where you are. When I lived in Buffalo, NY and then again in Erie, PA, Lake Erie would always act as a huge heat sink. It would grow cold enough over the winter that the weather remained cold through the end of April, then it would warm up through the summer and keep the weather warm until almost Halloween. I would always tell people that living near the lake just pushed all the seasons back by a month.
That is true. I grew up on the part of Lake Erie, where we didn't really get lake effect snow. Flagstaff receives more snow a year then this area. It was the warmest part of the whole great lakes region. I noticed the weather patterns around us were totally different. All the crazy storms and weather would always end up in Michigan or New York. It always hit north in Ontario or east in Erie. We were our own little pocket. Often places like Pittsburgh were much colder and snowier. But we had the best orchards fruits and the grapes were amazing.

Erie and Buffalo always had the crazy weather. It is always very different depending on what part of what lake. I always thought Lake Michigan played into why the most southern part of Lake Erie was much warmer. The shape of the lakes made it so Michigan got hit in the west and then storms would miss us and head straight into the lake. Then the areas to the very east would get hit.

Oh wow! Maple stuff is still going on in Michigan? I had no idea. It wrapped up for me in March. I always find it interesting further north how much longer and later certain things go. How as you go further south, they are into the strawberry season. Where I am at it feels like asparagus, peas etc.

Have fun! I am a big fan of sugaring. I cannot wait to add maples to my little rural paradise in time and do my own sugaring. I also want to add bees too!
We picked up a bottle of syrup and a jar of maple cream. It's like maple butter for toast and such. It's delicious.

Then on the way back we stopped at a jerky store and bought a kangaroo jerky stick and some flavored meal worms to try.

I can't wait for strawberry season up here. Yummy
Have you made any pancakes with the syrup yet? I love real maple.

Strawberry season is the best. Actually, the whole bit of berries into orchard fruit is amazing! I have a few strawberries in my fridge right now and I am thinking about making a pie.
