Wow great pictures everyone! Somehow I missed a bunch of posts in this thread! Thank you for bumping it Erik!

Ever since I put a fountain into the pond behind the house, we have been getting even more Wildlife than before! Dave was putting bird seed out for the birds, but somehow it attracted the ducks? I don't know what they are supposed to eat? They seem to like the bird seed? Anyway since I started feeding them now they come back every morning by the time I get to the gym they're already back there waiting for me!

The part where they run away is when Harvey, my dog, comes up behind me, but they come right back.

Looks to me like they are chasing the male off. When they come back, he doesn't come back as far. One girl he could probably handle. But, two? I'd stay further away, too.

All I see is an audio player, though. I can hear you and the ducks, but the screen looks like this:

I had to download the mp4 file manually and play it with "vlc" to see the video as well.

How odd... it should play right in the frame here inside the forum, or you could also play it full-screen.

You could be right about that Walt, I didn't even think of that, I just assumed it was because Harvey was behind me and maybe he moved or something and scared them.

Erik and Vicky, it played fine for me. I even see video in the screenshot you posted, Erik. So I played the clip in your post and it worked fine. Not talking about the audio player I see, I mean the clip in your quote. The audio payer doesn't do anything,

I was going to suggest that you put out a pile, then just sit there. Maybe they'd get more familiar with you and eventually come eat out of your hand. (That was before I got to the part where you put out a pile, lol.)

But then I realized that would take a long time. You'd be my age before they got brave enough,

Yes, Lance. It's a video - an MP4 file. You and Eric might look around your settings and find out how video files are played? Download the file then right-click it. You should see an "Open with" selection. Click on that and see what is available.

If you've already done all that, well, I'm out of ideas, lol.

Yeah, I get the same audio-only player in my quote, too. Which is to be expected, since it's just the same link in a newmedia tag but inside a quote block.

I noticed the 3 vertical dots on the right, though, and "download" is the first option. So I needn't have downloaded it manually the way I did (with "wget").
So, if you the download option under the 3 dots on the right, you should be able to get the video using a player on your local computer.

I don't use a graphical file browser, but I already know that "vlc" is the multimedia player for my machine. Thanks anyway, Walt!

UPDATE:

I just discovered another interesting quirk: I get the same file for the download option in both of Vicky's video posts. Her earlier post now points to her second post. Yet, if I start the process of replying to Vicky's first post, the original filename is in there, and I can download it manually like I did before. So, I am going to try posting both links with the "url" tag instead of the "newmedia" tag.

When I right-click "open in new window", I still get an audio-only player! However, if I right-click "save link as", and save the file, I can use my local player to get both audio and video. Weird!!

That suggests that my browser's mp4 player cannot decode the video for these files. I can try other mp4 files I already have, but I don't think it has had problems with mp4s before. Maybe some version issues?


UPDATE 2:

I downloaded an mp4 file from a different site, and then tried playing it with my browser, which is Vivaldi. That file had audio and video. Vicky's ducks still have audio-only. So, my browser apparently doesn't understand the version of mp4 that the duck videos are in, even though it does understand other mp4s.

I've used VLC before. It opens a lot of clips.

You kind of lost me there Eric but I just created the video on my standard phone camera and uploaded it to my blog, and then posted the link to it using the new media tag. I'm wondering if there's a better way?

By the way, clicking on either of the two links above that you posted, immediately opens the video for me full screen on my phone. I haven't checked on a computer though.

I was just trying to figure out what configuration can play the video and what can't. When I click the links I posted, I get full-screen audio-only players. Basically, the player that came with my operating system (Linux) can handle more formats than the one built in to my browser (Vivaldi or Firefox, which I just tested).

As Walt said, VLC can handle a lot of formats.

Perhaps Lance can see if he can run "vlc".

Do you run LInux? I just thought to run "file" on both a file that my browsers can handle and the duck videos which they can't. It says Vicky's videos are MP4 V2, whereas the video that my browsers can handle is MP4 V1.

And nice bird pics! I'm guessing that level of snow is normal for you each year?

Both embedded videos played fine for me.

One of the reasons I like my place is that there is a large pond/small lake with a two-mile walking trail around it, maybe 100 yards from my front door. Most days I can see a critter like this one, though not always so close.

Awwww I love it. Being with nature feels so restorative and just resets my mind and my attitude. Sometimes I feel all confused in this messy world and forget what's important then just some alone time with nature and a quiet think, makes everything clear and focused again.
