Just letting everyone know that Vicky and Rokkerr are back home, already packing up to evacuate with Rokkerr's mom, to get away from the storm. Everyone please wish them well. I'm hoping they're on the road already or pretty soon. Those roads will fill up quickly.

Helpful hint: If you're stuck in traffic and have sat there for more than 1 minute, turn your engine off. Why sit there for an hour going nowhere wasting gas? Many people have run out of gas in these situations. They have to push their car off to the side and sit there waiting for someone to bring them gas. And that most likely takes hours. Even if you need the AC. Run the engine to get cool, Then shut it off. Leave the windows up. When you get uncomfortable? Run the engine only as long as necessary, then shut it off. If the weather is nice? Open the windows and get some fresh air. Don't be one of those we see standing outside their car pushed into the center median out of gas.

The hurricane (Ian) is, at this point, predicted to pretty much run right over Tampa. Vicky and Rokkerr are evacuating, so we have to pray that there isn't too much damage to their home. Where that is involved, you have to pretty much put up with and deal with that. I've seen predictions of 2' of water in Tampa.

So please add a small prayer for them that Ian goes easy on them and they get back home in great shape. I know they have plenty of friends there but everyone will have to deal with this.

Looking at my weather app, it looks like the storm is turning inland south of Tampa, mainly meaning the Tampa area might not suffer too much damage. Let's hope.

Well, looks like we can relax. Vicky and Rokkerr saw the storm seeming to turn inland south of Tampa, so didn't go anywhere. They've got winds 60 - 70 mph, but no hurricane style winds. So, except for a few trees, all seems to be well. They've even still got power and internet.

Walt, sounds like good news for Vicky and Rokkerr. Have been watching the news on TV showing a map and it appears the worst hit was in the south west in Fort Myers and heading north near Tampa up to Orlando.

Sorry for not posting on this thread sooner! I didn't realize that the vacation thread had turned into the hurricane Ian thread lol....

We really dodged a bullet! Second time this has happened! Irma in 2017 was coming at us at cat 4 and veered away same day I believe! We had already evacuated for that one! Legend has it, the blessing of the tocobaga Indians is protecting tampa bay. Seems to be working.

Sending love and donations to ft.meyers, naples, Sanibel and all of Charlotte and Lee County. We know a lot of people down that way and it's not pretty.

I lived in Cape Coral for years and when watching the news I had a lump in my throat because I was familiar with many of the areas they were showing the destruction.

I was in Vero Beach for Irma and have some videos of the storm. Took one as a tornado came through a few streets over.

Even as high up as sarasota county they got blasted. I think they are just finally opening up the schools now?
