Virginia's governor is poised to sign a law, like many other states, that requires porn sites to use digital ID to prevent Virginia kids from accessing porn. The problem is that Virginia doesn't HAVE digital ID (and the digital ID it plans to roll out isn't for third party verification), so the law essentially bans all porn in Virginia and violates the first amendment rights of every state citizen that wants to legally access porn. I can't believe how reactionary and stupid these (all) lawmakers are.

Wouldn't any rational court rule as unenforceable a law that it is impossible to comply with. Or perhaps "wouldn't" ought to be replaced by "shouldn't".

You have to have the disclaimer - that's the law. But is there anything to stop you from adding a disclaimer about the disclaimer. "The above disclaimer is required by law, but is pure poppycock, completely unsupported by any science, and a violation of the first amendment..."

The comments made in these "disclaimers" are generally wrong, in many cases, outright lies as far as I'm concerned. (I"m 80 and still doing it. I haven't yet devolved into stupidity.) - OK, I hear you laughing.

It's even stated - the comments reflect the misguided agenda of the Religious Right. and "echoes the debunked “porn addiction” language of faith-based anti-porn groups."

Also, Louisiana's legislature just attempted to pass a law that strengthened their "porn portal" law by enabling lawsuits for "treble damages" against adult content creators for not verifying legal age using their "LA Wallet" portal.

All that will do is allow for the inevitable challenge in court.

The other news is that Georgia Congresswoman Majorie Taylor-Greene made an attempt to sneak into the compromise debt ceiling bill a rider that would have allowed prosecutors to waive off one element of the "Miller Test" on "obscenity" in order to harass and prosecute adult creators and adult sites. Thankfully, it didn't make it in the final bill that became law.

Just to give you guys an update on this, we are now blocking Arkansas as well from our servers. (So I won't be sued by an angry parent because their kids saw porn in our free tour area.)

It's so simple to put a porn filter on your kids phone or computer though. You can do it at the cell phone store while you are buying them the phone. As a parent, why not control what your kids do? Instead of demanding that the government do it for you?

Is it logical with all the data breaches nowadays to ask all USA men and women 18-99 years old to upload their government issued ID to every single porn site they wants to visit? That is just begging for identity theft!

So we have no choice but to block these states to protect ourselves. It's all just a bunch of work for nothing, because a 16 year old boy who wants to see porn will just use a VPN. Or he will go to a non USA website that doesn't follow our rules, and go down some other dangerous rabbit hole there. This law is just useless.

OK, Vicky, You probably remember, I tried using VPN maybe a year ago and I had nothing but trouble accessing the site. Has all that been resolved? I had to turn my VPN off. So now I'm what you might say a little cornfused, lol.
