"For Vicky, working with people who are more mature and experienced is preferable, as they tend to be more professional and reliable. "
I'm more mature and experienced! Where do I report for duty?

I got welcomed back once, lol.
It was in the Dallas Police Dept system in 1968. I got busted for vagrancy, I think it was? Second time, lol. I had no money for fines, so it was, I don't remember, 10 days? Not more, I'm sure. Both times, after a couple days, they came around asking for volunteers to go to substations to do yard work. Gee, outside in the fresh air? I'm IN!
So they sent me to the North Dallas substation. So much nicer than downtown. Three cells, and at night, they'd close the door but not lock it, which was cool. They'd go out and get me McD's for food.
So, the second time twas about a month later. I'm a hard learner, lol. One of the guys saw me and said, "Walt! What're you doing here again?" I replied, "Awwww, they caught me sleeping in the weeds again, haha." So he responded, "Well, we kept your room for you." Of course I said, "Oh, gee. Thanks so much, hahaha."
I remember he was a good guy (they all were, 6 or 8 working at that station.) Second time I was released, he said, "Walt, you need to get a job and a place to sleep." I agreed, we shook hands and I left. Shortly after that, I headed back to Detroit.
I got my money in those days working at Day Labor offices. These are places where you can go get various jobs on a daily basis. You go in early. About 6 they start announcing jobs. You raised your hand to volunteer, and they'd select the folks they needed. It paid maybe $1.20/hour (minimum wage at the time.) You could get $2.00/hr for "skilled"(?) jobs, like painting, for example. The lower jobs like yardwork were the lower paying ones. I remember filling a Semi-Trailer once with mail bags. There were four of us. That night I slept well, lol. What job you might get depended on how dedicated you were - meaning that, if you showed up every day, you would get reselected for the same job. The more you showed up, the better jobs you could get. That's how you worked up to painting jobs. Then, to keep it, you had to show up every day. A job might be for a week or two, repainting apartments in a complex. If you missed a day? You went back to the bottom of the list, and might even go a couple days not getting picked at all, lol.
I don't know what they pay these days, but, prices were also low. So, for a $10 day I could go get a hamburger with fries, a beer and shoot a couple games of pool and have $5 left over, lol. Also, if you wanted, they would hold your money until Friday. They'd give you what you wanted, $5 for food, for example, then keep the rest til Friday. That way, on Friday, you could get a decent paycheck. So I'd do that for 2 or 3 weeks when I was ready to travel.
All that went on for maybe a year or two. Then I found the ad for jobs in Alaska in a Sunday paper. I applied, got the job, and they flew me off to Alaska, and here I am today, lol.
