Happy Thanksgiving
I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. It's that time of year again when we gather with our friends and family and give thanks for when the Amish we're able to overthrow our robot overlords. It was a tough battle and many lives were lost. It was a blessing that the Mennonites were able to set aside their differences with the Amish and come to their aid.
So, like me and my family tomorrow will do, turn off the lights, light a candle and join hands with your loved ones and sing the Amish National Anthem.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Hope all the Canadians had a great thanksgiving! I'm kind of at a loss nowadays, I just don't know what to cook anymore for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner? I'm going to actually have my Norwegian family here this year for christmas, maybe we can just make fish? In Norway I think they usually do pork roast for Christmas?
I guess they could cook some kind of meat if they want to? But I would feel bad asking them to start cooking when they just got off a plane, and it's not an easy flight because it's in three segments, and there is a 6 hour time difference so they will be exhausted. Hmmm what to do? I really find that the longer I stay vegetarian_pescatarian, the more even just looking at a piece of meat grosses me out. I don't want to look at dead carcasses of animals. I don't think I can cook it! Fish it will have to be!

The pesto, parmesan and panko baked cod, or the coquille st. Jacques would be my top choices.
I'd say send me a portion if you do either of those, but you'd probably pull a Walt and claim postage is too dear.

I put out one pumpkin, uncarved. It is still by the front door, will probably stay there till garbage pickup. Pity capybaras are not native to north america, they would solve the after halloween pumpkin disposal quandry.
Apparently pumpkin carving started precisely because pumpkins are so plentiful:
Before Halloween was widely celebrated in the United States, kids started taking pumpkins — which were overwhelmingly plentiful during the months of September and October — and carving faces into them. After sticking a candle in the pumpkin to light it up, kids would run around, Bannatyne tells TIME, frightening people with the spooky-looking objects. The so-called “carved pumpkin trick” became so popular that there were even how-to articles printed in magazines as early as 1842.

It is. Wikipedia says 4th Thursday in November, which is the 28th this year. However, if the Christmas decorations can be put in stores before Halloween has even occurred, then you almost can't go wrong with a Happy Thanksgiving just about any time in November. Thanks, jimhenry!
Christmas decorations are in stores even before the Canadian Thanksgiving!!ErikB wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2024, 7:10 pmIt is. Wikipedia says 4th Thursday in November, which is the 28th this year. I think JimHenry just wants more turkey more quickly.
