If I may: When I first started dating my sweetie (She's my HS Sweetheart - Vicky has seen pictures,) I went to her house. As we sat on her couch in the living room, she got up and went to the back. She returned and sat down beside me. She looked at me and said, "Do I look any different?"
Well, even then, I knew that was a loaded question. So as I sat there stammering, humming and hawing, 'er'ing and 'um'ing, trying to figure out what was different so I could compliment her, she said, "Oh, it's no biggie. I don't have any make-up on and just wondered if I looked any different."
Heaving a big sigh of relief, I wanted to tell her that I thought she was so beautiful, make-up or no make-up made no difference. She was immeasurably beautiful, regardless. So, I told her,
"Gee, Sweetheart, that doesn't matter. You couldn't look any worse."
Well, after I crawled from under the cushions, she knew what I wanted to say, and I am here to say, she didn't kill me.
So, Vicky - "You couldn't look any worse!"
