A. How to Post Your Avatar.
1. The maximum size for your avatar is 200 x 200. Too big makes it not fit very well on the page. The spec is Hor x Vert. First, resize your avatar picture to fit within that size. You can use the latest version of Paint, or Microsoft Office Picture Manager, or numerous other programs to do that.
2. Open a second window and navigate to the main board page, so you can leave this window open to refer to.
3. Look to the right side of this page. Under your profile, click "User Control Panel."
4. At the left, click "Profile."
5. In the list on the left, click "Edit Avatar." That will take you to the page where you can upload your avatar.

B. How to Upload a Picture to the Forum
1. The suggested maximum size of a picture is 500 x 500. 300 max is a pretty good size. First, resize your picture to fit within that size limit. Current versions of Paint have a resize function. If you don't have that, most any picture editing tool has a resize function. Just ensure that the largest dimension is at 500 pixels or less.
2. Open a second window and navigate to the post you want to add a picture to.
3. Click "Post a Reply" at the bottom.
4. Near the bottom of the window, you will find, "Upload Attachment." Click that.
5. Click "Choose File" and find the picture you want on your computer. Click on it to highlight it, then click "Open."
6. Below that, next to "File Comment:" add a comment about the picture if you wish (optional.)
7. Click "Add The File."
8. Scroll back up to the window where your post is. Click within the window to put your place marker where you want to insert the picture.
9. Back down below, click "Place Inline." This will place the picture place holder where you want it, in case you want to edit it later.
10. Click "Preview" to look at your post and verify it is how you want it.
11. When you are happy, click "Submit."

Please don't make your avatars too big, anything more than around 200x200 makes the page scroll down so much especially when it's just a one line response to something know what I mean?

This will take up a little space, but hopefully will help people decide which size they wish. Remember, you can also choose any intermediate size. For example, my samples increase by 100 pixels. But you can choose 325 or whatever size you want. Generally, set the longest side and keep the aspect ratio, and the software will size the short side of your picture accordingly.
100w x 78h 200w x 156h 300w x 235h 400w x 313h 500w x 392h 600w x 470h 700w x 548h 800w x 627h Ok, we figured out that while pictures up to 850 pixels are allowed, they will only post at 600 Px. If you click the picture, it will display in a new window at the original size. Try it on the last two pics and on a couple smaller ones. The smaller ones won't click, because they're all ready at their max display size, which is the original post size.

So what am I doing wrong? Somehow with the new forum look it lost my avatar pic. I tried to reload it and I keep being told it is too large. I have taken several pics and edited them down to a 200 pixel x 200 pixel size, but when I try to upload them it reads the original size of the pic and says it is too large. I check the details on the pic and it shows the smaller size. Any ideas?
thanks
thanks
Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you are up to :-)
Is the image more than 977.00 KB?greggl wrote: ↑October 12th, 2017, 9:13 pm So what am I doing wrong? Somehow with the new forum look it lost my avatar pic. I have been reviewing my instructions as related to the new forum and it seems to be doing the same thing to me. I resized a picture and it uploaded just fine. But when I tried to go back to the original avatar I had, it won't let me. It is saying that the picture is too large, something like 1280 px X 960 px.
So I closed my browsers and opened another. First, the avatar picture I had up is gone. Next, When I tried to upload my original avatar, it now says that that same picture is now 1600 X 1200.
So I went back to my original browser and the avatar is there. But it still won;t let me upload the original avatar I had. And now it is telling me that THAT one is 1600 X 1200.
Let me get Vicky on it.

These are the avatar settings I have set up for the forum. So as long as you stay within these parameters you are golden.

Notice that the max size for avis is 250 x 250.
You would have to reduce your photo to that size or smaller in order for it to download successfully.
You could use an app like GIMP or any decent photo editing software to reduce the size.
