I heard that Italy and Greece today had 120° f? They closed the Acropolis to protect people from themselves... tourists are passing out..

Death Valley in California had 130+? I guess there is a reason they call it Death Valley? Nothing could live there! They said right now it's the hottest place on Earth.

My folks worked in Death Valley for several winters. Winter temps usually stay below 98, lol. The National Park Service operates out there year-round. But with a pretty small team. I think that Death Valley in the summer is where the phrase “skeleton crew” came from, lol.

Dad worked wherever they needed him. One year he worked the gas station, another he worked out on the golf course. Mom always worked in reservations. Mom could/would get me a nice room when I’d drive out from Los Angeles for the weekend. But, being an old Boy Scout, I’ve always loved to camp out. So several times I’d drive up one of the canyons and pitch my tent way back in there. You seriously would not believe the silence back in those canyons.

When you live in L. A, you have to adapt to the constant noise level and learn to live your consciousness above that level. But out in Death Valley, that dead silence was absolutely refreshing. When I’d drive back to L.A. Sunday night, I would seriously be so relaxed that I’d feel like i had been gone a month. It was seriously refreshing.

It's been high 80s here in NC with a heat index in the low 100s. I like the heat; a two mile walk in the afternoon and I'm drenched in sweat. Four miles and I feel like I've earned the 'sitting on my ass for the rest of the day' that I'm going to do.

After my rower this morning it looked like I peed my pants. I have never sweated that much before! I'm still exhausted from it! I came in third though!

Great job Vicky!
I did four miles today in 91F/33C temps (real feel in triple digits) and when I got home it looked like I had lost a wet tee shirt contest.

Please be careful Davest! That heat is to be taken seriously!

My handyman was working over here, and even though he was in the shade after a while he had to go lay down, he was dizzy and sick to his stomach and started talking gibberish.. I got him some liquid IV right away and he slept for a little bit and then he was okay..... but that was kind of scary.

Thanks for the concern, Vicky. I do take the heat seriously and never push myself beyond sweating and breathing heavy. I am also not too proud to sit on one of the many benches on the trail should I start feeling less than great. I like to keep a good pace, but when I had an achy calf I paid attention to it and cut walks short when it was acting up and slowed down or stopped for a while when needed. I am also OK with taking days off or working out inside when I need to.

I don't doubt it.

This morning the weather guesser predicted a 50% chance of rain. We had (and still have) clear skies. Afternoon weather guesser showed us a couple small cells about 100 miles east of here.

Even your guessing is bad.

We're having a high of 20C today and a low of 11 (68F down to 51F). I'll have to wear something warmish when I go up to the cottage later in the day.

I've been living here since 1981 and the first tornado we ever had was in 2018 (that one hit my house). Since then we've had probably another 2 or 3 until this year, and now we've had 3 in a week.

Anybody know how Vicky and Rokker and the fur babies are doing? Also, isn't Sunny in Florida?

Charlee Chase
Cleo

Sunny sometimes but I don't think so...

Luckily the storm bypassed Tampa kind of last minute and went north -- we had some flooding and some dead fish but structurally sound :yeahbaby:

I am glad to hear that you escaped major damage! Charlee Chase and Cleo are in Florida in general, or in the path of the storm? Hopefully they are o.k. I thought Sunny lived there, given the number of videos Vicky did with her right about the time I joined. Maybe she was just visiting.

Nice idea, but I wouldn't trust something that just washed up.
