stickyvicky wrote: ↑September 19th, 2023, 12:02 am We have been roasting everything! I love it, it's so easy, and it brings out the taste/flavors of all vegetables!
Throw it all in a huge glass baking dish, toss with olive oil and spices, different spices every time i do it, love to experiment, and it cooks while you finish your work or camshow or whatever it is you are doing. We toast white, orange and purple potatoes, yucca, green beans, asparagus, carrots, parsnips, shitakes, turnips, tomatoes, celery, you name it! Whatever is in the fridge gets cut up and roasted so it's different every time! We make batches so it lasts for days.
Unused turnip, parsnips and squash left over from thanksgiving dinner:
chop into 1/2 inch cubes
drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss
Add a bit of salt and black pepper.
Cover baking sheet with parchment paper. Smear with garlic butter.
Spread the raw veggies and bake for 40 mins at 400F
Turned out quite yummy.

Interesting thread! Kat and I eat ground turkey burgers which I cut up onions and bell peppers along with seasoning to put in them before I cook them. I stop buying ground beef. We do eat chicken a lot!! We also eat a lot of veggies. We even just eat veggies and rice some nights. We like the plant based burgers, sometimes the black beans are good too. I know that I loss weight when I made the changes from 157lbs to 141lbs.
I think everyone should do what makes them comfortable and makes their body feel good. Feeling healthy is very important.

Dave and I can't wait to get our cholesterol and triglycerides checked to see if there's a difference since making the change.

He is actually a great cook! And he is always buying new things for us to try! Like recently, he bought something called Lotus root! I had no idea what the hell it was, but it was pretty cool I sliced it thin and fried it in a tiny bit of olive oil, and then sprinkled some amino acids on it, which is healthier than soy sauce. It was really great! It can be a side dish or a snack.

Sounds good. Yeah, soy sauce is so salty.
Look for something called Jicama. It's a root, looks like potatoes, has the consistency of radishes, but none of the spice. I've had it in salads here. Knowing you, I'm betting you could add some to your dishes.

Lotus root brings back memories. It is a common dish in India. I think I've had it once at a restaurant in Canada.stickyvicky wrote: ↑November 5th, 2023, 7:52 pm He is actually a great cook! Interesting. I'll look into it.
VIcky, I've heard of Amino Acids in our blood or someplace. They're supposedly important to our health. But, you add them to your food? You mean, like a Tsp of sugar? How/where do you buy that?

I really have no idea if this is good for you, I've always seen aminos in powdered form that you mix up and drink as you are working out, it seems to be just made from soy so it can't be bad? It tastes really good though! But be warned it's very salty.

"When protein is consumed and broken down through the digestive process, amino acids and peptides are what's left inside the body."
OK, you know I'm usually a smart ass, lol. But I'm really interested in your answer.
Based on the current quote, couldn't you just eat?
I mean, I'm eating amino acids right now (Bag of Beef Jerky. I always stop in Bowie, Az at Dwayne's on the way out here to get a couple gags, lol.)
OK, enough jokes. I really AM interested in your answer.

My understanding is that there are several amino acids that your body does not produce, you can only get them through food. Which is why it's important to eat the right Foods, and it can't hurt to take essential amino acids as supplements especially when you work out hard because you use them up, and they also help you to recover faster after your workouts, and they help you to build lean muscle.
